I have heard from multiple sources today (not including rick), that joey has apparently changed his mind and is going to stay. However, when I asked the new sports information director about it today, he knew nothing about it. One of the sources is a player that we have been recruiting that said will wade told him yesterday that we may not have a scholarship left. I will say that if Joey is indeed leaving, it is strange that there has been no information sent out at all...look at all of the players who have announced they are transferring that we have conjectured about, wondering if VCU had a shot to land them, like the kid from kansas state. I will admit that Joey's situation is different in that he was likely going to a D2 school and not going to have to sit out. Still, the fact that nothing official has been released or sent out leads me to believe that this may in fact be the case. When I spoke to Joey about 3 weeks ago he was pretty emphatic that he was going back home...i just hope that whatever he decides that he does it quickly and sticks to it.

the recruit that I spoke with is still considering VCU but is also being recruited by cincinnati and depaul. I told him not to do anything yet...hopefully he will heed my words :)

Joey's been all over the place about it. I honestly think he'll end up going back home. The guys are trying to get him to stay and he is changing his mind a lot. I think honestly his heart is in Florida and he will end up going back. The guy wave is talking about is a very highly ranked JUCO guard that would take care of our PG problems if Joey were to leave. However the big schools are looking at him (Cincinnati specifically now that Bledsoe is off the board) and we need Joey to decide soon so that we can make a move and offer ASAP.

Good point. We need final resolution on this ASAP. I'm confident that everything is going to work out somehow, and that we are going to be in excellent shape.

I hope I still have hair left when the season starts.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. For the record Joey's dad Joe hasn't heard anything from Joey about staying at VCU. Leads me to believe that Joey isn't really serious about staying. I think we should just cut him loose and get our recruiting done.

 This should be the other way around

Would be a smart decision by the Staff to do that

I agree based on what I'm hearing about this JUCO guy, whatever his name may be

I would argue that someone with even less skills than Joey would be a better choice at this point. I'd much rather have a player who is maybe more physically teachable, hungry and committed than one who's going to be constantly dealing with internal/relationship turmoil stemming from his choice to play for our team.

I totally missed the release about joey leaving...i used to get all the ram notes and updates sent to me by email but I'm not getting them anymore...didn't realize VCU had officially sent something out. I don't think the juco kid is ready to commit anywhere yet...i believe he would definitely come here if offered. he didn't seem that excited about going to either depaul or cincy. I believe we can have him if we want him. I believe he could step right in and start next year.

Would you blame him for feeling that way when he is criticized constantly?

If an internet message board is affecting his psyche so much, then Rollins is the place for him.

on an unrelated note....F the Mets Go Phils :D

If this were even a minor issue and I were Smart I would immediately end discussions with Joey. Joey needs to be in Richmond for two things: ball and ball. If he's not in the right head space for it, because of a girlfriend or family or message boards, he's got to go. I'm not saying to not work with young guys when they're in a tight spot due to priorities, but in this case Joey doesn't want us and we can do without him if we focus on our JUCO recruit.

By the way, there's a chance the JUCO reads our boards as well. Joey's lack of commitment, and talk about our remaining free scholly being (re)taken, could be hurting us yet again with regards to other players.

He needs to make up his mind. He's hurting us with this is he or isn't he game.
