John Fields will not return to the UNCW basketball team next season.

UNCW coach Buzz Peterson said he was misled and caught off guard by the decision.

â€œHe told us he was going to stay,â€ Peterson said. â€œI asked him on numerous occasions if he was going to stay and on the last day of school he went to the AD.â€

The Dub can't catch a break.

Way to go out on a limb with that prediction. Really makes you appreciate what we have here in our players and staff. 10 years ago they were dominating our league. Not to kick them when they are down but at this point it seems like there is very little hope that their situation will improve any time soon.

Fields had transferred to UNCW from East Carolina, so he will apparently lose a year of eligibility.

I'm not sure this kind of movement and abruptness should come as any surprise to Petersen as he has been like a nomad during his coaching career.

how is he eligible this season? is the coaching change a hardship exception? kinda surprised he landed at UT....

I had not read the press release before commenting. I guess since he will be a graduate student he will be eligible immediately.
