Jonathan Arledge (2010, 6-9 225 PF/C)
Offers: George Mason, James Madison, Northeaster, Fairfield, Siena, George Washington, Penn St., and Providence
Interest: VCU, Xavier, Stanford, Georgetown, Michigan, Maryland, Boston College, Elon, Vermont and Virginia

One year ago, Jonathan Arledge of KIMA School (Washington D.C.) was being recruited by only one college for basketball, but after a junior season in which he earned All-Met honors, colleges are now taking notice and calling more than ever.

Before his junior season, Arledge was being recruited by only George Mason, but after a junior season in which the 6-foot-9, 225-pound Arledge averaged 12 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots and earned honorable mention All-Met, that list has grown.

"The recruitment of Jonathan has just blown up," KIMA head coach Levet Brown said. "He has interest from Stanford, Boston College, VCU, Rice, George Mason, Vermont, Oregon State. … There are just more colleges coming in all the time."

Arledge has only been playing organized basketball for four years, so the athletic big man still has a lot of upside, according to Brown.

"When Jonathan first came here three years ago, he could barely dunk," Brown said. "He has really improved his skills and his athletic ability. Frankly, I was disappointed he only made honorable mention [All-Met] last year, to me, that was laughable because he is a lot better than some of the players they rated over him on the All-Met."

What position Arledge plays in college will play a major role in which school he chooses.

"I want to play forward in college. I think I have the skills to play there, instead of center, even though I'm 6-9," Arledge told ESPNRISE.com. "I'm working on my dribbling, shooting and my perimeter defense. I think I have a good basketball IQ, but I've only been playing basketball for a few years, so I'm still learning parts of the game. But I feel like I have improved a lot the last couple of years."
Arledge said that he will soon be taking an unofficial recruiting visit to George Mason, but is keeping his options open when it comes to his future.

"I was a big University of Maryland fan growing up, that was my school, but I don't see me going to there now," Arledge said. "I have interest from a lot of good schools like NC State, Vanderbilt, Tulane and Stanford, so I'm going to take my time and look at a lot of schools.

"Academics, the college's graduation rate for basketball players, those are two things I'm looking at," Arledge added. 'I'm also looking at the team's style of play, the coach, does the coach care about his players, stuff like that too."

Arledge may not yet a household name on the Maryland/DC prep hoops scene, but he could turn out to be one of the area's best and most heavily recruited players in the Class of 2010.

Maybe I'm over analyzing a bit...but I still like the fact that VCU was the 3rd team mentioned right behind Stanford and BC. Not that that means we're his third choice...but when it comes to these things I feel like people generally tend to list the "big name teams" first, so it let's you know just how good this kid is..etc.

Over analyzing...sure, but still.

(PS. Then why Oregon State after Vermont, Mason, and Rice? I'm assuming he forgot them at first...they are a west coast team, etc)

are u stating from personal knowledge that he has a big interest in vcu or are u saying the article says he has a big interest in vcu? From what I read out of that article he has an "interest" but "big" I don't know.

on recruitrecon he has us listed first

Recruitrecon if you are reading could you provide some insight as to how you listed the schools. After all you did get to speak to Jonathan first hand.

From my understanding of that link the difference is when it says interest it means the school is looking into but hasnt offered a scholarship to the player cause none of the schools are listed as both offers and interest. could be an incorrect reading of it, but that was my take from it.

Interest is interest coming from the school, but no offer was extended. The order I put them in was random. As of last Tuesday, you guys still hadn't offered. I guess I should be more clear next time. Usually I put them in order with the CAA or other schools we cover first, not how I hear the schools.

Jonathan wasn't at West Virginia because he was playing at the Rock Summer League. If he went to WV, he would've probably picked up some more offers. He played a Top 100 caliber game a few days earlier at the Summer Classic. He'll be out in Vegas with his AAU team and the Hoop Group Elite Camp up here following that. I expect that list to expand. I hope he doesn't end up in a BCS conference, but I think he will. He looked CAA caliber in the Rock Summer League game I saw, but he was outstanding during the live period. He has even more of an all around game than I thought. He's athletic and very skilled. Can score in the post or face up and shoot.

I'll get another update after July.

Thanks big time for the update.

I kind of figured that Jonathan was blowing up and would get some big offers that he probably will not refuse (i.e. BCS school). But I read that one of qualities he is interested in from the school he attends is their graduation rate. If he is truly serious about that statement VCU should be on his final list. We have an execellent graduation rate. Plus we are only a few hours from DC, if he wants to stay close to home.

Keep us posted if you can.

With Mason having been the first school to offer Arledge, we'd better hope he doesn't want to stay TOO close to home. If we don't get him, rather see him go outside the CAA.

If he plays as well in Vegas as he did at the Summer Classic, I'd expect even better BCS to make a serious push. Not just so so and lower BCS programs. I get the impression that he's improved a lot since the winter. His offense is farther along than most CAA incoming big men and better than Larry's was. Of course Larry is longer and probably more athletic (although Jonathan is very athletic). Originally I thought he was a perfect CAA big man. Athletic with some offensive skill, but still needing a lot of development. He's better than that though. His AAU team runs the offense through him too so he gets a chance to really shine unlike a lot of big men.
