Jordann Dumont is a VCU Ram!

I think he would initially be a rotational player off the bench. He did start to get more minutes after Jan last season. He shot an impressive 45% from 3 (his primary shot at villi) but he only shot it 22 3-pointers total last season while making 10 of those.
But you never know. This will be his first summer workout due be out in last summer due to the surgery. It will be a bit strange this year. It is almost a brand new team except Jennings, Hill, and Ferm. But summer and fall is going to be like 4-5 month tryout for a starting spot on the team. I think every spot is wide open this year. Not sure I have seen that before.
But Dumont has 3 years left and has the opportunity to step up with a wide open position.
And Michael Belle

Solid pickup was hoping we'd add another wing! Obviously limited minutes at Nova, but averaged 8ppg in the 2023 U19 FIBA World Cup. Straight up shooter and floor spacer. Not too much off ball movement to get himself open (would love to see him improve on this) but should be that Shriver-esque guy that you can't leave open and can take help defenders off the table if he gets hot. Good elevation and high release point, so he can shoot over weak close outs. Capable finisher in transition, but again he's looking to spot up.

Also worth noting he's put on roughly 25lbs since HS, and he definitely needed it lol Listed as 195 on his recruiting profile and Nova had him listed at 220 this past season. Unfortunately, he still doesn't look strong on the court (pulled clips of his fouls from last season) and while he's pretty mobile, it doesn't look like he'll be a strong defender or be able to box out stronger post players. Should be able to help with rebounds by crashing though. That being said, if he shoots at or near 40% from 3 off the bench idgaf if he's a good defender or not 😂

Yeah, this could be a sneaky good signing with a lot of upside.

BTW… I found news about Dumont transfer in Pennsylvania press this morning. Big surprise: the RDT reported not a word. Moreover, I couldn’t find a contact point on the RDT website to point this out and complain. I suppose the sports editor can’t be bothered with covering such minor news when UVa transfers have to be reported.

Jordan hails from Montreal and has played on the Canadian U19 World Cup team I believe. He had very impressive numbers in high school in Chattanooga, Tenn. and is known for his 3-point shooting. He is a big wing at 6'8" 220lbs. He underwent arthroscopic surgery on both hips which delayed his development at Villanova. He is an upside piece with 3-years of eligibilty. I like the move by the staff.

He had his surgery in May 2024. He didn't see any significant minutes until the February 1st game against Creighton. He averaged 6.6 mpg over the last 14 games of the season.

I assume you're talking about the Richmond Times-Dispatch, or RTD, which does cover VCU heavily. The deputy sports editor and VCU beat reporter, Zach Joachim, did post multiple times on Twitter about it. I honestly don't know how much the RTD is covering UVA transfers, but roster stuff like this doesn't usually warrant much more than a blurb. Zach has done a big story with an overview of the roster, and has done a lot of good stories lately about VCU, including one on Zeb Jackson's decision to leave.

Not sure what you are looking for regarding the newspaper industry these days. It's a dying breed. The Sunday edition of the RT-D is now the size of an average weekday edition years ago. With that said, Zach does a good job covering VCU basketball. I would much rather have Zach covering VCU basketball than John O'Connor, who is a leftover from the Bill Millsaps era.

Frankly, I'm a little surprised (and, just to be clear, happy) that we still HAVE a daily newspaper in Richmond.

But you do have a daily newspaper in Richmond, and it should be doing a better job of providing timely coverage of VCU basketball news. You get no argument from me about Zach's coverage of VCU. As for, O'Connor, .... I was there in the 1960s and 1970s when both the RDT and the now defunct News-DeLeader ignored Ram basketball. BTW- I found contact info for a number of RDT news execs and complained about timeliness of reporting. Others might not feel the same as I about the RDT's coverage of VCU, but that coverage (or lack thereof) does influence people's perceptions via agenda-setting and cultivation analysis of VCU basketball within cluster of other Virginia college programs .. vis a vis Virginia, VaTech, and UR.

If you want to see the current state of the RT-D, just pick up a Sunday copy. There are very few ads in the paper these days. Their revenue streams are drying up due to social media. They are struggling to hang on, and if you want to subscribe to the daily print subscription, you will pay through the nose. They are losing subscribers left and right. Newspapers are a thing of the past.

Their main revenue stream seems to be getting you to sign up for a low rate and making it impossible to cancel.
