Jordann Dumont is a VCU Ram!

The decline of the newspaper industry is sad. I majored in mass comm, concentration in print journalism. One day in class, the professor made those of us studying print raise our hands, then just said, "why?" It was a decent question because I never did get a job in that field

Their main revenue stream seems to be getting you to sign up for a low rate and making it impossible to cancel.
E-Edition isn't great either. I get charged monthly then will get an email to upgrade. Not doing it, will cancel if I can get to it.

I just canceled my digital subscription. I found out that the deal I struck had expired and I was paying $37 every 4 weeks! When I went to cancel, they offered me service for ~$25, then $17/4 weeks.

I don't live in RVA and only subscribe for VCU coverage, which I very much enjoy. But at that price, I could not justify it. If they offered me a sports-only pkg I would absolutely be willing to sign up again

I still enjoy my coffee and digital edition in the morning. I am paying $14.99 a month now, so if they try and jack it up for "added features" not doing it.

I used to work there (biz desk) but as for Rams coverage …. It’s not often that i see something in the RTD before I see it at least discussed here. And often, they build on the Ramnation discussion, which is great to see. But it all does make one wonder what the point of paying might be.

I disagree with this actually. I think Zach does an excellent job adding new info and nuance to what I see here (although obviously after it makes the RTD it is soon posted here). Anyway, I was not happy to unsubscribe because I think local newspapers are absolutely critical to what's left of our democracy. Fortunately, RVA has Michael Phillips' Richmonder, which I read and have contributed to

Fellow mass comm major here. I never worked in print. Instead I worked in another dying medium - radio news. I’ve been out for a while.
One of my favorite assignments in school was the short radio segment we had to do. Really put into perspective how much thought and effort can go into something that seems as simple as a two-minute radio clip.

Dumont looking like Jack Clark from behind the arc last year... Of course with less floor time :)

You deserve an award for hanging in there with them this long.

they used to call me monthly to try and get me to get renew

They don't seem to understand that their are many other sources of news and sports. Local and state stuff is what they are different from other sources. The price is too high for that, lowering the price could get more readers.
