Josh Henderson (2010, 6-11 225 C)
Josh had an outstanding week, particularly during the game we caught on Tuesday evening. The highly skilled post player can do a little of everything. He establishes position down low and is at his best when catching the ball and making quick moves to the basket. Josh finished well around the hoop in the first game. He'll often go to the hook shot and convert in that manner too. He doesn't waste time when working around the hoop. Josh moves very well and runs the floor too. He's pretty athletic and showed that with several dunks. Josh rebounds the ball well too.

Wednesday's game was an intriguing matchup with elite prospect, Nate Lubick. Neither actually played particularly well, but they had their moments. Josh showed even more of his versatility than he had the day before. He opened with a deep face up jumper and later on hit on a three pointer. He blocked a shot and rebounded well, but struggled some in the post. The NE Playaz defense swarmed him when he got the ball and it caused Josh to turn it over a few times.

He still managed to make a few other plays too, but he didn't dominate the game as he had done a day earlier. Like most high school players, he could benefit by adding strength. Josh is a terrific looking prospect though. Some mid majors were involved early with him and he'd be an absolute steal for them at this point.

IMO this is the kind of guy we need. He is big 6'11, 225, under rated at this point and from the state of VA.

Josh Henderson is the son David Henderson, who starred at Patrick Henry High of Roanoke, and then played for Lefty Driesell at Maryland.

David Henderson's Patrick Henry team lost to Maggie Walker (with Clyde Austin) of Richmond in the 1976 State semifinals in Charlottesville.

David Henderson's younger brother (can't remember first name) played at Radford.

I see where JMU is recruiting him too. I know Lefty did not retire at JMU but I wonder if JMU will try to use Lefty and work an angle with Josh's dad. May sound like a strecth but if I were a recruiter I would try anything to sign a true center, nearly 7' tall, for CAA play. Us Rams fans can attest to what it means when you have a big man in the middle.

Also, like Larry was it seems like Josh is not as heavily recruited as some of the other high school senior centers. But once all of the top 10 or so centers are gone the rest of the D-1 schools will come hard after Josh. It would be nice to see us sign this guy and get a big skilled player on the boards early.

I sat and watched one of his games with an ODU assistant. He said Josh has improved tremendously since the HS season. He's a very skilled post player and would be a huge pickup.

Sounds like Josh would be a great catch. Now let's see what school can recruit the best and sign this guy.

RR in your opinion do you see Josh headed to a BCS school or do you think VCU or a CAA school have a shot at signing him?

I think he's BCS caliber good and will get quite a few offers from them. You guys and GMU have been picking up some of those types of kids though so who knows.

Josh Committed to Vanderbilt over the weekend. Don't think he was ever really interested in us. But he is a big from the state of VA and I have been curiously watching where he would wind up.

Seems like a lot of commits have been given out over the last few days/couple of weeks. I think this will be a very busy week for us. After all November is three weeks away and our season, like the high school season will start soon.

Vandy will probably end up recruiting over this kid. He's another one that wanted to play at the highest level but might not ever get to see good time on the court. He's got the height though just needs to fill out and keep improving quickly as he did over the summer.
