Kendrick Warren

I saw him play in high school and of course *almost* four years at VCU. Kendrick was the best finisher we have ever had. I can only dream of how he would have loved to play in this system for Shaka or how he would have loved the passes from Eric. Through some tough transitional years as we moved up to the Metro, Kendrick kept us all on the edge of our seats and kept us competitive.

* when you look at the all-time leading scorer and rebounder stats, don't forget that Kendrick was injured and missed several games

Ah.... 1990......
Eugene Trani started his first year as VCU President (he laid the foundation for what our campus is today).....
Sonny smith was still the new coach at VCU, having come fresh from Auburn U, and bringing us hope because he was the man who'd coached Charles Barkley. And we had this hot local new stud player named.....
Kendrick Warren. A freshman all-star who was going to elevate our program to a new level in the ol' Sun Belt Confernece.
And in the stands of the Colosseum another young freshman, named Beirne, was watching the games with his friends....

Kendrick Warren was, and forever will be, The Man!

My favorite all time player....we have not had a player close to him yet...if he had not broke his anle one year and had to sit out 6 weeks he would probably still be the all time leading scorer...all I could say is he was a beast before they started calling guys a beast...the clip does not do him justice...if you saw him in person you would be blown away easy....Dont forget he was a McDonalds All-American....I believe our highest recruit ever....should have been pro...

What you say is true. He would still be the all-time leading scorer. And if he had shot 65% from the free throw line it would be a record nobody would ever touch. I hope to see Trey break the record and then hope to see that record broke several times because as a fan I would be seeing a lot of future greatness.

I would love to be able to articulate the sound a coliseum crowd would make as Special K would head toward the basket in a break away. The anticipation, the excitement. Everyone knew "It's show time!" And then the payoff. It wasn't just the air time (which was considerable), it wasn't just the flush (which was always spectacular.), or the the style (which was unparalleled). It was also the follow through. His body used to uncoil in mid air. A slam dunk is one thing. A Kendrick Warren slam dunk was a thing of beauty and excitement and you couldn't take your eyes off even if you wanted to.

I was walking around the Seigel Center during halftime of the Northeastern game and came across a plague honoring Kendrick Warren. His stats were unbelievable, he must have been incredible to see in person.

Was he drafted? It appears he wasn't? Why not? His senior year he was nominated best player in college basketball....

Thanks!

The Warren Files are coming........

15 minutes of slam madness

Even though you gave me the dvd, I am still looking forward to clicking on the link and watching those incredible slams over and over. Everyone is gonna love it.

It will not look anything like that DVD. That was raw footage. I am spicing it up. Saved from the attic.

Kendrick should have been an All American - but because our team was not great record wise, he didn't get the publicity or attention like Christian Laettner, Chris Webber or Stacy Augmon (UNLV). He was every bit as good as those guys as far as all around game. He could have played for any school in the country. He was very shy coming out of high school and wanted to stay close to home. We did the best we could to promote him w/the Warren Report but our resources were limited. I helped keep the fax machine buzzing sending those reports out every week from our sports info office. Most of the focus back then was on Sonny and rightly so after what he had accomplished at Auburn. Kendrick was happy to let Sonny have the spotlight. Kendrick made it to last cut for the Lakers the year that he tried out before they let him go. The front court combo of he and Sherron is the best we have ever had. Those were some fun times !!

Wait until the video gets out of these highlights because it is insane stuff. It is 15 minutes of his dunks. I found the VHS in my attic tucked away in the bottom of a box. I can't wait for fellow RamNation people to see it. Especially the younger fans because it is eye popping. I am adding slow motion fx/rapid fire edits with music. There are also some fan shots and the Sumo wresting they would do at halftime. Ha! The VHS was just shot after shot with bad natural sound.
Ladd, Harris, McCoy and Gibson knew how to move the ball and feed Kendrick & Mills. Hopefully I can get the video up for everyone's enjoyment during the offseason. Can you tell I am hyping it? Believe me that the hype is warranted.
