Keynan Pittman is a 6'10 big man that the coaching staff is on for the 2011 class. He was 6'8, 190 as a sophomore and has grown into a legit 6'10 now going into his junior season. His father played for UNCW, who is also recruiting him. However there has been no pressure from his dad to join the Seahawks. He's garnering interest from over 25 schools but when asked for his list mentioned VCU first. Pittman says VCU, UNCW, Wake Forest, Florida State, Miami, Auburn and Ole Miss are among the suitors for his services. His post game has improved a great deal over the last year and he is learning not to foul in the post. He would be a good recruit for us and heir apparent to Larry if he leaves this year. Here's the profile:

Keynan Pittman:

2-star recruit

ESPN 91 Grade, #20 Center
Considering: No schools at this time.

We seem to be recruiting the state of North Carolina particularly hard as we are recruiting Travion Leonard (6'8, 275, 91 ESPN, #15C), Chris Wilson (6'2, 190, 90 ESPN, #41PG) and Pittman according to this list of top 2011 NC prospects:

Hopefully our staff can nab commitments from some of these highly regarded players in the coming year.

We've usually recruited N.C. well. I hope Pittman interest pays off. I know we also have our 2011 sights on several excelent N.C. PG's.

I like Pittman's verbal mention of VCU first when discussing who he's considering. I realize it doesn't mean anything, but clearly we're on his mind in a sigificant way. Getting several young bigs in 2011 is critical.

Question: if we lose no existing players or 2010 recruits, etc., how many scholly's do we have for 2011? Don't we need at least 2 skilled bigs as recruits in 2011?

If Larry stays then he, Ed, Skeen, B-Roz and Joey will all be seniors next year, so 5 if larry stays.

Yeah, having open spots for 2011 won't be an issue. This will be a key recruiting class for us as we will have a lot of talent to replace. If Larry stays that could be our entire starting lineup for 2010 that we will have to replace, or at least 4 starters and the first man off of the bench. I think we will have enough success between now and then to turn some heads and continue to pick up top notch recruits.

Yeah after next year we'll be introducing a number of new faces to the team. Thankfully we'll still have Burgess, Gavin and Saintil as veterans and Theus, Daniels, and Grayson would be given the reins in the backcourt. All have shown flashes of capability and the skills to contribute. Not to mention having a sophomore Reco McCarter and Rob Brandenberg who we'll be counting on to make a big sophomore jump for us.

We'll still be a talented team, but we'll wait for 2011 to worry about all that.

Let's hope that Keynan is closely watching the outcome of this game. Perhaps he might even be in the house to see 2 programs recruiting him go head-to-head? I think our atmosphere and facilities are obviously better at this point, and hopefully our team also shows him that this is true on the court as well.
