So does anyone feel like we could actually get better in the paint. Here me out on this.

No. That's crazy.

P.S. PM me. I have some property in the Everglades you might be interested in.

Call me crazy, too...I don't know...the last several games if LS1 got in foul trouble and sat I didn't get that sinking feeling like earlier in the season...certainly will loose a big factor in the paint but I think this team learned how to play w/o Larry and if they can get the new bigs up to speed we should be fine.

oh...just exactly where is that Everglades property? I've got the deed to a few others I got a great deal on...always looking to expand my domain...

Ok. You're crazy.

Larry's likely to be the first big man in our entire history to get drafted in the NBA first round. He averaged 15 and 9 as a junior (I don't think we've ever had a center that had those numbers and Larry had them as a junior), numbers he likely would have improved upon if he stayed. He was first team All CAA. He's a two time Conference Defensive Player of the Year. He was first team All Virginia. All of this as a junior.

We're returning one post player who averaged 8 and 4. He had some good games, but for each good game you can point to two others where he disappeared. In addition, he certainly didn't set the world on fire on defense. Hopefully he was just knocking the rust off and he'll have a great senior season, but anyone who thinks we're going to be better inside without Larry is nuts. Friggin' nuts.

this

I suppose there's potential for improved chemistry or other hard to quantify multipliers, but "IF"s ain't "GONNA"s

Yeah, when we're in the gym picking teams, I'll take the 7 foot guy with the 8 foot wingspan. The guy who picks second can take chemistry. ;)

Count me in the crazy...or close to crazy crowd.

I think that we will be at least as good offensively down low, but not as a good defensively. Skeen will get more touches and emphasis in the offense. When he managed to get the ball, I think that he was more efficient than Larry with it.

I wish Larry well and am certainly glad that he came to VCU. However, I'm kind of happy to be turning the page on his career here. At times, it was extremely frustrating watching him play this past season. I felt like he was already with one foot out the door.

well now you know how every Kentucky fan felt this year with John Wall, and how duke fans and unc fans (maybe not this year) and gt fans felt. Everyone knew John Wall was one and done, same with favors at Georgia tech, he told the coaching staff that coming in. Maybe we just need to get used to people leaving early!

I hear what your saving but every guy comes to college with the hope of the nba, that's why they play college basketball at the D1 level.

People attacking the basket now will be our concern. All those guys who would see Larry in the lane and stop and turn around are gonna go straight at the rim now.

We usually only had him for about 22 minutes a game... so we'll just do what we did for the other 18 minutes :) j/k

We'll miss you Larry. Best of luck!

I'm genuinely curious
WHO is gonna draft him
and
WHEN he's gonna go

I'll certainly follow his career and make it a point to mention his VCU-ness when discussing basketball with random people who are fans of whatever team he lands on. Hopefully he doesn't end up in the D-League, but it is a distinct possibility. Eric was shortlisted for the D-league in Utah at the beginning, because of Sloan's proclivity for leaning on veterens and for the fact that he had sent a boatload of drafted kids to the D-league nearly every year....'course we all know how that turned out.

Good Luck Larry...good thing you didn't transfer to 'Bama with Coach Douche

Newcomers Veal (parmesan), Reddic, Haley should receive opportunity aplenty in a restructuring Rams' frontcourt.

VCU loses a gaping 59 minutes per game of forward-center work - Sanders 26.9; Gwynn 15.3; Pish 8.7 (down, embarrasingly, from 20.7 as junior) and Saintil 7.9.

Aside from Sanders' force and deterrent force at both baselines, the story of 09-10 was the 3-point marksmanship. VCU out-pointed the opposition by 249 points from distance - firing a warm-fingered .366 compared to foes jittery .302.

Will the gold and black be awarded as many unobstructed releases minus the shadowy presence of Lengthy Lawrence?

Another question is fouls - despite playing the most relentlessly aggressive style I've ever seen by a Divsiion I team, VCU actually had 23 less fouls than the guys wearing different colored shirts. How might No. 1's absence impact that?

Skeen had just 31 fouls in 580 minutes this season. How will his defensive role change and how much more vulnerable will the Wake transfer be when rivals smell baskets and swarm to the rim?

Good luck Larry!...we appreciate your time here..You did us proud and did your family proud.I wish the best for you moving forward.... :ugeek: :ugeek: :ugeek:

We likely would have been a prohibitive favorite with Larry in the lineup this coming season, but I doubt that is the case anymore. It's between Mason and ODU with VCU coming in at 3rd if you're an unbiased preseason prognosticator. Larry was our leading scorer, rebounder and commanded tremendous attention from the opposing teams, some of whom made it their primary mission to get him out of the game. He'll be missed for sure. Next year will be another transition year (and before we say this 27 win season wasn't, let's remember 5 of those wins were CBI wins against fairly sub-par competition). Without Larry I say we take a bit of a step back at least early on.

Skeen is a capable frontcourt player, but we don't know what we are getting from any of the newcomers. Veal would seem to be the frontrunner for the other frontcourt starting job I would think unless either Haley or Reddic REALLY shine early on. We'll be talented but young in the frontcourt. Once the CAA tournament comes around, I expect at least 1 or 2 of the freshmen to be cracking the regular playing rotation and contributing at a respectable level. They'll have plenty of playing time to adapt and grow. Our guards will be excellent and we will likely lean on them early on along with Skeen as our young guys develop.

I agree that the key to next year might be how consistent the production is from Jamie, but right behind that will be Brad taking the next step and being more aggressive for his own offense. I expect early on at least to see a lot of "small" lineup with Brad at the 4 going with the older players as we work in the younger ones. By the time we get to conference play then Daniels, Theus, and probably 2 freshmen will be getting consistent time and depending on Veal we are probably 10 deep. If we get consistent play from Jamie, Brad and Brandon then this team will be just fine replacing Larry at least offensively, defensively it is impossible to truly quantify the difference his leaving will make.
