As always the Times-Dispatch with timely reporting of the news.

Virginia Commonwealth junior forward Larry Sanders is one of 50 players named to the watch list for the Naismith Trophy. The award is presented by the Atlanta Tipoff Club to the nation's top collegiate men's basketball player.

Also on the list are Benedictine graduate Ed Davis, a sophomore forward at North Carolina, and Virginia sophomore guard Sylven Landesberg. There are 13 sophomores on the list.

Sanders, 6-11, was the Colonial Athletic Association's defensive player of the year last season. He averaged 11.3 points and 8.6 rebounds and was ninth in the country with 2.7 blocked shots per game.

Sanders, Davis and Landesberg also are on the top-50 list for the Wooden Award, a player-of-the-year honor given by the Los Angeles Athletic Club.
