Although he was fairly well known among mid-major devotees during his freshman year, VCU's Larry Sanders didn't enter the national basketball conscience until late last season.
Now, Sanders is one of the most talked about players in the nation. According to Blue Ribbon's 2010 preview of VCU, "Sanders sports a 7-foot-7 wingspan and won last season's CAA Defensive Player-of-the-Year award...coaches know the intangibles are what makes Sanders such a force: he changes the way they can attack VCU.
DraftExpress.com, an evaluation and draft website, recently listed their top five draft prospects among the non-Big Six schools and Sanders topped a list that included Dayton's Chris Wright and Butler's Gordon Hayward.
Blue Ribbon analyzes Larry Sanders
Sanders: The nation's best big man?
"Though, he hit 51 percent of his shots, Sanders is still developing offensively. He scored mostly on a bevy of stick-backs, dunks and short hooks, but Sanders spent the summer working on his midrange game. Sanders also scrimmaged against the best collegiate competition in the land, attending the Amare Stoudamire big man camp and the LeBron James Skills Academy."
