Larry Sanders Summer League Game on NBATV

That would be Paul Delaney from UAB, not Malcolm Delaney from Virginia Tech. M. Delaney is staying in Blacksburg another year.

Info nugget: Among the striped shirts in Vegas is Garrick Shannon, from Midlothian High and .... a long-time VCU fan (may have attended there). Garrick has blown the whistle in the D-League the past two seasons and is hopeful of being summoned to the NBA sooner rather than later - very close with now NBA ref Curtis Blair.

Garrick, in his 30's, well built, balding, has called a few VCU Black-Gold games in the past. Shannon played basketball and baseball at Midlo High and, more recently, was a slugging outfielder for Screws in the Tuesday night softball league at Warbro/Chesterfield.

Your bet is as good as mine as to what games he calls in Vegas.

I thought it was a good showing for his first ever NBA action. Kevin McHale seemed impressed by his length and his ability. Certainly was some sloppiness on LS's part but that will happen, especially in your first NBA appearance. Cant wait for the Bucks vs Griz tonight at 8pm on NBA TV. Love that there is some summer league action going on with former VCU-ers, need it now too, with the WC over and not being a baseball guy, summer is boring for sports.

I'm pulling for Larry like crazy, but there sure is a bit of spin on his first outing. It was not pretty.

“I’m not going to be perfect and I’m not thinking about being perfect,” said Sanders after his Monday summer league debut. “Coach Skiles told me to focus on controlling what I can control and don’t try to be perfect.”

Six turnovers, five fouls and 4-15 shooting later, Larry Sanders had finished his NBA debut. Those aren’t perfect numbers. But things weren’t all bad for Sanders.

Nine points, three blocks and seven rebounds are all numbers the Bucks are interested in seeing. Even more interesting was Sanders style of play and always running motor. The Bucks young power forward was heck bent on blocking every shot he could, the kind of effort the Bucks expected when the drafted Sanders 15th overall in June.
