Larry

If you think Larry is the problem...go watch Hockey. What? you want him to block all those threes Drexel rained down on us? He does so much that does not show up as a stat , his post presence on the d end is game altering...find another scape goat. Larry is the one player we can not do without.
If you dont like where he is posting up or that he sets screens at the top of the key, blame Skaka.
Larry is clearly our MVP, his production is steady, unlike the rest. Even if he never scored a point I would want him in for his D. get off the big mans back.

brad..we all know you hate the most game changing important aspect of college basketball...the three point shot...good thing for them Drexel does buy into that. You have to shoot em and make them or you are going to lose to the teams that do.

Bingo. Larry has been the only player that has consistently produced game after game. A lot of people talk about role players and how you have to have them. Unfortunately, other than Larry so far, that's all we've had.

Just a quick note on the threes. Larry got raked over the coals last night by posters, but when we got the lead down to one possession, we got a couple of offensive rebounds and guys immediately jacked up threes when all we needed was a good, two point shot.

You mean we shouldn't bench him in favor of KP or Hinton? ;)

I said you need role players and people need to know there role. Thats means everyone! I love having Larry in the middle, Joey shooting an (open) three. Nixon and Brad taking it to the rim. I agree Larry is important for our success. He needs to be down low and Brandon needs to shoot the three. That is what there role should be!

Exactly right. That's why the guys who have shot 10 for 37 from behind the arc (0 of 9 for Brandon, Joey and Jamie last night; guess the role thing didn't work) the last two games need to start producing/making some shots and why guys need to start guarding the perimeter. Moreover, everyone talks about Larry and his positioning, but why is it that our guards aren't getting Skeen the ball in a position to score? I thought he was the best post player since The Big Dipper?

I'm wondering whats up with him getting his shots blocked all of a sudden

If you really watch Larry shoot inside, there are times when he barely jumps. He more or less extends and uses his length to get the ball near/above the basket quickly. While this is effective at times and when he wants to get up (alley oops) he can, other 6'9 + guys are able to gather, jump and contest his shots because he is not really jumping very high inside all the time. He needs to gather himself a bit, go off of two feet TOWARD THE BASKET as high and hard as he can and then shoot. He's playing soft and not going up aggresively. It's a skill thing, but it's also a mentality. He doesn't have a power forward mentality.

Is our starting PG Joey? Lets have him set up the offense.

Dear PG,

Run the team and go inside! After you establish our inside game, you will benefit and the C/PF wil get you the ball and you can shoot open jumpers. Pass the ball 1st and we will win. Play as a TEAM and we win by 40 (UNCW). Play as individuals and we lose by 3-6.

Thanks

Definitely liked Larry's shot selection a bit better last night. Thought he did a better job at staying closer to the hoop.

Absolutely right. If the other 4 on the floor would step up as consistently as Larry does, we would not be 1-3 in league play!!!

The guy who everyone seems to think has been such an albatross is now up to 12th in the nation in blocks per game, per ESPN.

I think of him as more of a condor, but albatross works too :D

i fully agree with you. he plays great defense, but in all honesty, does not have the power forward's mentality. if you watch, half of his rebounds are because he can reach so high in the air to grab them. i also dont like how u guys say, "we need him to get back to the Larry we know." scoring 14 pts 9 rebounds n 4 blocks is the Larry we know. the guy does not have great post moves so if you break down his 14 ppg, 6 of them will be dunks, 4 pts of layups/alleyoops, 2 points from the foul line, n 2 points from his one good post move per game.

the guy is no Eric Maynor. he never will be. no one will. after his 18 pts, 20 reb, n 7 block performance against George Mason in the CAA ship, the RTD raved about him n how he was an NBA prospect. i think Larry Sanders is a very good player for our team, but if you honestly think that after a junior season of averaging 14 ppg in the CAA, means ur good enough to bolt for the NBA, u must be nuts

thanks rambunctious for mentioning about how he doesnt jump, cz he honestly doesnt

as stated before the NBA doesn't always look at stats. They look at potential most of the time. Larry has the longest wingspan in college BBall. He just started playing 4-5 years ago and he has so much potential. So if he decides to go pro he will be drafted and he will guy high based on potential. Besides most NBA teams don't really play D anyway. So if Larry can run up and down the floor fast he will get points. He will also block shots based on his size. He will make it in the NBA whenever he chooses to leave VCU.

Personally I would like to see him stay one more year to add weight, some post moves and just get a better understanding of the game. But when the NBA money calls it might be to hard not to listen. Time will tell.
