Gotta give props to the coaching staff and the players on this one. I remember how much last year sucked at this point. While we have looked very inconsistent in the early-going, these last few games have shown promise for a nice season.

Let's hope our boys keep it up! GO RAMS!

I don't deny it. In fact, I embrace it gladly.

We have been admittedly less consistent than I had hoped and I think we have some kinks to work out still. I think we can all feel good about the last couple of games though. I just hope they have turned the corner and this becomes more the norm and not the exception.

It's certainly always tricky early on to tell what teams from the bottom half may be for real. Hofstra hasn't lost a league game yet, and with Jenkins carrying that team, a lot of people may have overlooked a good team with their projections for the league this year. GSU has wins over us and JMU, a team most everyone thinks has a legit shot to win this year, and who many people think will finish up ahead of us. Are the Panthers for real? W&M took JMU to the wire today, and we saw them do that to us already on our floor. Going to Williamsburg will be a tougher test than Trask. GMU and ODU played a championship style ballgame today, hard to argue with anyone who has those 2 teams finishing 1-2 in the league!

Chemistry is a wonderful, wonderful thing. It just looks like our guys are in sync.

VCU4Life: You're right, the CAA is a crapshoot. We just have to sit back and enjoy the ride hoping that we're at the top when it's all said and done.

DCDuck: Indeed it is and indeed they do.

I noticed at the game (UNCW) that when a player made a mistake, or missed a shot, the other players were coming up and talking to each other. Saw one sequence, after JR made a bad play under the basket, Ed came over to him and kind of gave him a talk and a pat on the back. I also saw a lot more hand slapping going on.

I think some of the seniors are starting to step it up. You could see it. It was there. It has not been there. Good.

Wow, were we really 1-3 at this point last year? Crazy.

Don't let debacle of a season last year lower your expectations for this year. We should not lose to GA State or any lower tiered school (record be damned Ga State will be in the bottom half come tourney time) at least until they prove they are a better than bottom tier CAA team.

This win today was good because it was a game we were supposed to win, we should win, and we did win. We have more talent than UNCW it isn't close we should consistently beat that team until they too can reestablish themselves as a true contender for the CAA title.

The first step to realizing the potential of a team is to win the games you should win, show dominance at home, and to sneak in a couple wins that could go either way.

If we keep this up we are moving in the right direction. There will be tough games ahead but the only game where we shouldn't be favored are the ODU games other than that we should defeat the other teams in the conference. Granted there will be bumps in the road like the GA State game but they should be exceptions not the rule.

Re: Last season in the CAA at this point: 1-3, this season:

And we've got three VERY winnable games coming up here with back-to-back games against 4 win teams (@ W&M, home v. Northeastern), and a payback home game against GSU.

Looking at the teams ahead of us and their schedule, there's no reason we shouldn't snatch first place or a share of it heading into the ODU game.

-Hofstra goes to ODU Jan 15 (get Towson and UNCW as well, very winnable for them)
-JMU also goes to ODU Jan 19 (home against GSU and UNCW)
-ODU has a pretty brutal stretch here with games @ Drexel and Hofstra, followed by a home tilt against JMU before they get us at home. If they survive that they are looking good.

Coach said in an interview that Ed stood up in the locker room after the Drexel game and gave a talk about how the Rams had not played well at Trask since he (Ed) had been at VCU. That it was time to reverse that and play as a team. Many of us have been harping on senior leadership, or the lack thereof, but this and Ed's play last evening seem to me to be an example of it and certainly the results showed.

Yesterday we saw what this team can do when they all play together, and perhaps they can play even better. Hopefully they worked out some things and have turned he corner. I'd like to thank some of you in helping me not be so negative on these boards the last few weeks. Our program isn't perfect, and neither am I. But lately I have tried to be less negative and some of you are responsible for it. I get the whole be positive vibe a little better. So go RAMS!

Well, they should have plenty of incentive against W&M considering the flack they received from last season's loss there.

I will feel better about things when we begin to get Reddic the ball more for the shot. He played 15 min last night and had all of just one shot. Better teams (than UNCW) will clamp down on Jamie and limit us to a total perimeter game - making it much easier to defend if all you have is an exterior shot.

But not to be all negative since we have battled back - certainly against Drexel - and took it to UNCW. Ed looked really good and can get us to the basket with drives in the lane. Roz has a nice pullup jumper, although I don't think he used it last night. Reddic is coming along nicely as a freshman. Brandenburg is huge for us. And Joey looks to be coming out of his funk a bit.

I still expect us to have ups and downs for the next month or so. But I think the Drexel game helped show the team why good defense is so important, especially when offense is lacking.

Love the quote L72boy. Wooden certainly was a wise man.
