ECU head coach Mac McCarty has resgned as head coach to take a fund raising position with ECU. Mack will be raising money to build a new basketabll arena. Apparently, opposing teams burned down the existing one whilst lighting it up against the Pirates.

what's up with Mack stepping down before the end of the season? ...he did the same thing at VCU if memory serves, and some said it may have negatively affected our NIT selection (i.e. we were snubbed)

granted, ECU doesn't have anything like that to worry about, but you'd still think he'd wait until after the C-USA tourny

Mack's resignation I believe was announced the Monday after we got the shaft on Selection Sunday, I think.

It may have been officially announced that Monday, but I'm pretty sure it was talked about on an unofficially official level just hours after our loss in the CAA tourney.

Then I (and the other players and managers) must have been completely out of the loop, because Mack's stepping down came as a complete shock, and Jeff's hiring was even more of a shocker, and wasn't given to us until about 30 minutes prior to the press conference (in a players only team meeting, managers got to listen in the back of the Founders Room at the presser).

It was rumored that someone else was going to take the doughnut selling job if he didn't make a quick decision.

Where's that ECU guy who said Terry Holland, Ricky Stokes and Mack were the three greatest things sinced sliced bread?

Maybe they plan to forfeit.

While it is unfortunate for Mack (and I was/still am a supporter of him), it is a great pleasure to see a school make a much needed change at the coaching position rather than wait until the end of the guys contract. I wish a few more CAA school would take this advice and make changes NOW (and no I am not including Shaka in that type of decision......Towson and DE come to mind though)

Unfortunately there are not many (if any) CAA schools that are financially able to make that kind of a move.

I'm so glad we are in the right conference :?

This is one of the many reasons this conference will NEVER exceed the level that it is currently at....a middle of the pack conference.

The CAA may never grow beyond its current status, but programs within it can...by leaving.

The best case-scenario some time down the road is a basketball conference realignment that gets us into a higher profile conference - -something along the lines of the current A-10 or the old Metro. I assume the AD has thought of this (although 5th place finishes don't help). I can't imagine they think the CAA is in the best interest of VCU long-term.
