I just saw this on our local news...the mascot at Florida Gulf Coast University wins $1,000.00 for books next semester for hitting a shot from 65 feet away with the shot clock winding down. YouTube video below...

Wish VCU would schedule a home/home with FGCU. The university is minutes from some of the most beautiful beaches in the world! This would be a great road trip for those of you in the 804! Basketball in paradise...what more could you ask for?

I hear ya banana! However, if we're going to play crap teams like Bethune Cookman, we may as well play a team like FGCU. They would be a great team to schedule early in the year. I don't know about this year but I'm positive FGCU has played other CAA teams over the past several years. Would be nice for the Florida kids to play a state game and would be a great location for Rams fans to take a mini vacation and catch a Rams game! Plus the facilities at FGCU are new and very nice. Alico Arena is not as big as the Stu but it's a beautiful on campus facility.

I was thrilled to hear the news!!! I'm sure our Florida kids are excited too. This is a game we could win on the road. Let's pack the house with black and gold!
 
I have a friend whose daughter goes to FGCU. I hear it's really nice, like a vacation destination.

Yes, the campus is very nice...all new facilities. They even created a sand beach on a large lake for the students. I'm told that FGCU is the most expensive state university in Florida. The university is newer (10 years old or so) and they already have well over 10K students...probably more like 15K. I believe the plan is to grow to 25 or 30K within the next 10 years. Their basketball arena (Alico Arena) is very nice! Smaller than the Stu but still a nice size. On top of all that, the campus is situated about 15-20 miuntes from Barefoot Beach, Bonita Beach, Ft. Myers Beach, Sanibel Island, etc. Its an easy sell!

The arena that you're referring to is Germain Arena (was called Teco Arena about 6 years ago). Germain Arena is comparable in size to the Stu...seats about 7-8K for most events. Its home to the Florida Everblades hockey team. Alico Arena is about two miles away on campus at FGCU. Its a very nice smaller venue...seat 4,500 for basketball.

The Boston Red Sox are building their brand new 11,000 seat Spring Training Facility (Fenway Park South) just a few miles north off of Daniels Parkway near Southwest Florida International Airport.

My wife and I just LOVE living in Southwest Florida! Now, if we could just schedule more VCU Rams games in Florida we'd be in business!

You got it...Miromar Outlets. That Nike store does some serious business. In addition to Miromar, we now have two other HUGE malls in our backyard...Coconut Point (a Simon Mall...very upscale) and Gulf Coast Town Center (very close to FGCU). We've got something for everyone over here...pristine beaches, shopping galore, hundreds of restaurants (fine dining, sports bars, chains), a growing university (FGCU), a hockey team (Florida Everblades), two spring training MLB teams (Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins), etc, etc. Last but not least, some of the most beautiful weather you will find anyhwere in the country!

How do you like the east coast compared to the west coast? My wife and I are beach people and the pristine Gulf beaches were very important factors when deciding to relocate to Florida.
