Janning, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Northeastern, is headed to Oklahoma City tomorrow to take part in a minicamp with the entire Thunder roster next week. From there, he will head to the Orlando summer league, which begins July 5.

Janning seems pretty happy about potentially reuniting with his former foe, the one and only em6. he tweeted yesterday
@EMaynor3 let's get after it my dude! I'm excited for it!

Janning will join Maynor, Harden, Cole Aldrich, and former UAB standout Robert Vaden on the 12 man Thunder summer league roster.

Janning has always been a class act and a super talent in the CAA. I'd love to see him play some SG behind Harden in OKC. Sefolosha is terrible.

I hope Maynor shows him the difference between the men and the boys

Good for Janning! He was always very formidable against VCU the last 2 years. While it was maddening not being able to beat them, I have to feel sorry for them that they weren't able to parlay a couple of great teams into any NCAA appearances. They had a nice team. I'm sure they'll be back soon though, Bill Coen is a great evaluator of talent. He does more with less than any other coach in the CAA and Janning is a prime example. He was a heck of a player that flew under the radar and had a very nice 4 year career in Boston.

I wish him luck, it's going to be VERY tough for him to make the roster, but I'm sure he will parlay this into a better Euro gig and he could very well see the NBA sometime in the future. Congrats on the mini-camp invite Matt!

Janning doesnt stand a chance. He is not mobile enough. However, playing in the summer league will improve his Euro options. Vaden is such a good shooter. As to Sefolosha, not a great offensive player but he is atheletic and GREAT defender. Sefolosha will be in the league a very long time.

I disagree. Coen had two great players and two solid CAA bigs. They continue to lose a lot of close games and Coen couldnt figure out that he needed something else off the bench. They always break down at the end of the season despite being the best team in the league. We couldnt do anything with them and we are a darned good team. We lost two to ODU that quite frankly we shouldnt have. However, the games against NE they beat us at every turn.

NE wont be very good next year but the PG, Chaisson Allen, may actually have a chance at the next level. He is tall athletic, and shoots well.

Thabo is crazy good, one of the best defenders in the NBA.

Maybe he's a great defender...I don't know, I can't watch all of his games. But in the games I've seen, he hasn't really earned his minutes. He is TERRIBLE offensively. averaged 6 points in 28.6 minutes this year...shoots just over 31% from 3, and only hit 67% of his free throws this year. Kobe dropped 23.5 a night on him...and I know, it's Kobe, but if all you're bringin is D, you're probably expected to play D against people who can score.

I'm sure he's a nice guy, but OKC is a much better team with Harden on the floor.

Natty, you dont know bball if all you do is look at offensive stats. Thabo is a great defender and has beat out many shooters for his spot on the floor. HIs offense will come but as for as him being a number 1 guy perhaps that never happens Same with Eric, or Larry but other stuff can win the day.

Thebo is a sure fire pro with great upside!

Go Rams!

Mobility and speed hurt Janning's chances but he can shoot 3's pretty deadly when he gets on fire. This should be interesting.

I really would like to see him make the roster for CAA visibility in the NBA. He doesn't have NBA game though. He was an invite to the mini-camp and is likely going overseas. I think he can get a nice Euro gig out of this. He is deceptively athletic in that he can pull off a nice play out of nowhere. Not NBA athleticism though. He does have NBA range on that 3 pointer though. If he can be a stud there he might be able to make a roster as a niche player.

Even If I agree with Mr. Krauses "players dont win championships coaches do". (Which I dont) That would only solidify my point Cohen hasnt won any championships players or not.

Also, as to the statement about coaches and players. See PHil Jackson, Pat Riley. Also, you dont see the teams in the league positing themselves for the next great coach now do you? Everyone is scrambling for the playears the players manNNNNNNNN.

Cohen sucks!

A.) Not saying Janning is good enough for the NBA but many people said similar things about JJB and he's carved out a nice career for himself albeit as a role player.

B.) As for Coen, To say he sucks is flat out dumb. DB's right... There's not a coach that does more with less. He's found numerous guys that have made it to the NBA level(Troy Bell, Craig Smith,JJB.. i could belabor the point but much like jeff goodman's latest article on NU I won't). Speaking of Goodman or any other national writer of note(Bob Ryan and Andy Katz in particular)- They will absolutely tell you he's one of the best coaches this league has. More to the point he's not getting 3 star guys, he finds players that most programs overlook and turn the players into pretty good players within his system(the flex). A few quick facts on Coen. Since entering the league he's never been worse then .500, which is saying a lot because his first team with Bennent Davis and MJ/Adako as freshman was a pretty terrible team. He's won more then 61% of his games as a head coach. Coen led NU to our first back to back postseason since the 80s. He was also named the 2009-10 U.S. Basketball Writers Association District I Coach of the Year. People recognize who this guy is and why he's such a talent for the CAA.

For the record we didn't break down last year. You're thinking of 2 years ago. How did we "break down" this year?? We finished in 2nd place and missed out on winning the league by 1 game! Now from an NU fan's perspective I would say he relied on the flex a bit too much with his last group(adako Janning Spates BB etc). He tended not to trust his bench to run the system. Everything I've heard is that he's going to run it but in a much more athletic way this year. I don't think we'll be as terrible as some people think we'll be. I don't think we'll be top 4 but we'll surprise people this year-no doubt.

C) Of course the players are important but you need a HC who can recruit and who has a system that works for those teams. Look at the teams that have won titles in recent years in the CAA. VCU, Mason, ODU, UNCW. All of those schools when they won(either reg season or CAA tourney) had strong HC with definable systems that allowed their players to excel. Coen largely did that-he simply fell just short. which for some of you will be the bottom line of judging the guy but trust me ask around the league they'll tell you he's easily in the top tier of coaches in the league.
