With Eric Maynor making it to the NBA this year and Jamal Shuler Playing overseas...Larry Sanders Possibly next in line for the NBA....could VCU start to be looked at as a lauch pad.? If you think about it that is what it has been for the past two coaches. VCU has a reputation now as a school coaches want to go to. With over 100 inquiries when Grant left we are a hot commodity. Despite coaching changes we still signed two highly rated guards. There is something in the air about our school. Despite what detractors and playa haters want to say about us we still will and are on the rise. I was just wondering if anyone felt the same way I do? I feel that prospects are going to see that even though we may not be a BCS school we still have great academics and great facilities and if they are good enough a chance to move toward the NBA. :ugeek: :ugeek: :ugeek:

We're gonna be just fine. More than fine.

We have had a number of player in Europe for years. Time will tell if Eric has staying power (I think he does) and then how things go with Larry.

If Eric and Larry stay in the NBA, I think it will help the CAA more than it actually helps VCU. We might have a better chance at getting the guys that fly under the radar but those who are really destine for the NBA will likely chose a school with a long standing pipeline in that direction. But overall I think it brings more cred to our conference....that along with the Mason run of 06'.

But we also need to continue to show that we can actually beat those so-called high caliber teams (even if they actually aren't very good the year we play them).

This does make logic......I think we are poised to do that very thing....This is going to be a pivitol season for our program.. :ugeek: :ugeek: :ugeek:

How many of the last 10 number 20 picks still have active careers in the league? I'm all excited for EM and VCU, but what are the real probabilities that he is successful for the long-haul?

Probably most of these other 20s are not PGs. I know it has a lot to dowith who drafted you, their needs and how deep they are, but I just wanted a guage of the success rate from that spot in the draft.

2000-2006

Speedy Claxton, Brendan Haywood, Kareem Rush, Dahntay Jones (that same year Mo Williams went 47th), Jameer Nelson, Julius Hodge (however Nate Robinson went 21), Renaldo Balkman (Rajon Rondo went 21)

Id say thats pretty good company at the 20 with some gems at 21 too.

Cool. I didn't know. I was just thinking that it must be tough to break in because it's not like they have seniors graduating every year. The more I was thinking about it, the more pessimistic I was getting about his chances. Your post brings back my hope for him.
