VCU is holding steady at #6 despite our one-point loss at William and Mary this weekend. We lead all CAA teams with ODU right behind us at #7. W&M has finally cracked this poll (and rightfully so, they should be ranked ahead of any CAA team to be fair) and enters the poll at #20. Mason is at #24 and Northeastern has fallen out of the top 25 after their 2-point loss to Drexel this weekend and is receiving 19 votes.

1. Butler (18) 6-2
2. Gonzaga (11) 6-2
3. Northern Iowa (1) 5-1
4. Illinois State 7-0
5. Cornell 7-2
6. VCU 5-2
7. Old Dominion 5-3
8. St. Mary's (1) 6-1
9. Siena 5-3
10. Portland 5-3
11. Niagara 6-3
12. Rider 6-3
13. Murray State 7-1
14. Wright State 5-2
15. Western Carolina 7-1
16. Akron 4-3
17. Detroit 6-2
18. Western Kentucky 3-3
19. Long Beach State 4-3
20. William & Mary 6-2
21. Missouri State 7-0
22. Northern Colorado 8-1
23. Bradley 5-2
24. George Mason 4-4
25. Wisconsin Green Bay 8-2

I dunno, I think you sort of have to earn your way into this somewhat by way of reputation. W&M has a bad basketball rep. I am sure they'll move up, but for now I like them eeking into it. Everyone still needs to see them do this for more than 6-7 games.

Yeah, other than being good press this ranking seems somewhat pointless and definitely based largely on reputation. There is no award in college basketball for being the best mid-major. Which is one of the great things about college basketball, you get a chance to make it to the NCAA tournament and prove yourself against the big boys.

Cornell at 5th? wow, I guess I've over-looked them for a while.

Interesting that U of R is not included.

The A-10 is not included in the poll.
Is A-10 not considered mid-major?
In my mind yes, but they don't include the A-10 in this poll. That is another one of the reasons that this poll doesn't mean a whole lot to me.

C’mon man everybody knows that any list of MAJOR basketball power houses include the likes of : St Bonnies, Fordham, Richmond, St Louis, La sale, Duquesne, Rhode Island, etc etc

C-USA and the A-10 are traditionally the best non-BCS basketball conferences. At least their top teams seem to have the most success year in and year out. You strategically left out Xavier, Dayton and Memphis who have had significant national success recently and UMass, Temple and Houston (remember Hakeem Olajuwon and Phi Slamma Jamma?) who have also had success on the national stage. IMO the other conferences in the poll don't historically stack up to C-USA and the A-10.

Still, no poll matters to me except for the top 25. This mid-major poll is just a tactic that serves to keep the mids "in their place".

Why don't people read the whole thread so the same thing isn't posted 5 times?

I wish people would read the WHOLE thread so the same thing doesnt keep getting posted
