Mike Zangari - 2012 Prospect

Mike is a 6'9" soph at Red Land HS in South Central PA. He is averaging 18.3 ppg so far this year which is kind of high for a young tall player. VCU is following the kids progress. He is a sleeper right now as no rival, scout or espn profiles. He has a 6'8" teammate last name of Zach (Jr),so gets to practice against someone his height. You can google his name and high school for more info. He is from Coach Rhoades home town area.

Coach Mike Rhoades is reaching back to his Pennsylvania roots and recruiting one of the most talented under-the-radar prospects in south-central Pennsylvania in 6'9 sophomore big man Mike Zangari. He plays for Red Land which is the top high school team in that region. Zangari hails from New Cumberland, Pennsylvania and along with 6'8 junior Steve Zack makes up one of the most imposing high school frontcourts in the state. The duo has already led the Red Land Patriots to the Red Cedar Tip-Off Tournament Championship this fall (Zangari had 16 and 13 points in the two games). The team is still very young and may be a year away from really making noise state-wise, but Zangari is as promising a prospect as they come. Zangari is currently averaging 18.3 points per game after averaging 6.4 his freshman year and his team has a record of 5-1 going into the new year. His team is ranked #1 in the area.

Zangari also plays for the York Ballers AAU team based out of York, Pennsylvania. Here is his game output so far this season:

As a 6'9 sophomore who is still growing and already putting out 18.3 points a game, Zangari is a tantalizing prospect. He has yet to appear on scout, rivals, or ESPN. Coach Rhodes is a legend in the state of Pennsylvania for his legendary career at D3 Lebanon Valley College. He led Lebanon to the 1994 D3 National Championship and was named MVP of the Championship game. He also garnered First-team All-American honors as well as being named the National Player of the Year at the D3 level. His influence on an area kid like Zangari is tremendous. Lets hope that Rhoades and the rest of the coaching staff can seal the deal on this very promising big man prospect.

where in South Central PA? I used to live in the Chambersburg area years ago. I'm not familiar with the name of this HS.

Zangari hails from New Cumberland.

Chambersburg is the SW corner of the South Central PA - runs over to Lancaster county and north to Lewisburg area where Coach Rhodes is from/

Red Land. Mike's HS team. beat my HS 59-58 in OT, on Saturday night. Mike had 24 points to lead his team. From what I've read, Carlsile, my former HS, doesn't have anyone over 6'5.

Different county, Turns was from Perry County and Zangari is from right at the border of Cumberland and York counties. So luckily far enough away! LOL!

Question, isn't everybody who isn't a high school freak of nature pretty much under the radar as a sophomore? For the most part, I don't pay attention to any recruiting info involving us unless they're a high school senior (or about to enter their senior year).

I usually read "under the radar" as not part of an AAU basketball factory (which is fine with me, AAU can be an atmosphere where kids can get way overexposed, at a young age).
