Perhaps I have missed it but I haven't seen much of anything from anyone in Va State Government on VCU OR the 5...count them....FIVE Virginia teams that made the NCAA. Perhaps they are waiting until after we win the whole thing to step forward or something.

The Governor should have been at the celebration last night...even though it was put together fast.

Guess I'm saying this because the Governor and state legislature were really deeply involved in the move to get VT into the ACC a number of years ago. And former Governor Kaine did attend a number of VCU games.

Regardless, I think this would be something the state would like to participate in...or at least boast about....especially with all the publicity that VCU is getting right now. Did anyone from Va government step up in the media when both VCU and UR were in the sweet 16...two teams from Richmond, the capital of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the seat of power for the state?

They showed a pic on the news last night of Gov McDonald calling Coach Smart to congratulate him, and he just happened to be wearing a Notre Dame sweatshirt. I get that he went there and all, but don't wear another schools shirt in your pro VCU photo op.

I agree , I'm surprised the state government hasn't sunk their teeth into this historical run for our VCU Rams, even the Richmond Spiders run to the sweet 16. Its a golden opportunity to boost about the state, and everything it has to offer. Maybe they will at least acknowledge at some point this week the Final Four run of VCU.

There is no doubt in my mind that if Tech was in the Final Four things would be a little different.

RICHMOND - Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell issued the following statement today regarding Virginia Commonwealth University's victory over the Kansas University Jayhawks:

"I want to congratulate Virginia Commonwealth University on their historic win against the Kansas University Jayhawks. Virginians are celebrating their victory all across the Commonwealth. VCU is a great University with a well deserved reputation for academic and athletic excellence. We all look forward to cheering them on in the Final Four next weekend. I know they've got two more big wins left in them. Head Coach Shaka Smart and this group of talented student athletes are doing a tremendous job representing their school and community. Go Rams!"

Mayor Jones Statement on VCU Advancing to the Final Four
Mayor Dwight C. Jones issued the following statement on Virginia Commonwealth University Rams' victory over the University of Kansas and advancing to the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament's Final Four:

“VCU advancing to the Final Four is the stuff dreams are made of! This is a team of players who believe in each other, a coach who believes in the team, and a city that believes in dreams coming true. The city of Richmond is proud to add the Big 12 to the list of conferences that our CAA team has now competed with and proven that they have the talent and drive to win. VCU is putting Richmond on the map like never before and we'll see the nation at the Final Four."

As much as it PAINS PAIN PAINS me the R's are beating the D's when it comes to congratulating them when we're talking about federal officials. But it's not like they aren't releasing statements it's more likely journalists don't care. I think that's the filler that journos put in when the stories aren't that interesting. Don't look for any congratulatory resolutions out of the House of Reps though b/c the Tea Party got rid of those...

WTF???

McDonnell's an Alum, not that it makes any sense to wear a ND shirt while congratulating VCU winning over Purude. Maybe he was just decked out for the ND game against FSU?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_McDonn ... and_career

Here's his home page, as of right now it's the first pic that pops up on his homepage. I couldn't quite figure out how to snag the pic.

Edit* Just realized he's wearing the Purdue shirt while allegedly congratulating VCU beating the JayHawks. My guess is that they just used the picture of the Gov. congratulating VCU over FSU since they had it on file. Who knows, it's silly regardless.

Mr. Cantor is like the VCU Rams, headed for bigger and better things.

yea this really pissed me off.... I swear sometimes we are run by people who don't actually give two poops about the state they are representing but would rather show their appreciation to their crowd....

So, if VCU wins the whole thing and becomes the only Virginia men's team to win a D1 National Championship in either football or basketball, what's the reaction gonna be?

Cue Spider and Duke fans hoisting FCS trophies in 3. . . 2. . .

Governor Mac was trying to imply that he thought the Irish could beat VCU had they not been thoroughly walloped by Florida State.
