Monroe Park Improvements

LargeImage.jpg

Instead of crushed stone which would be tough for handicapped people to get around on why not use grass pavers? There are many different types, allows water to seep into the ground, won't retain heat as much and you can drive maintenance trucks over it plus retain the grass look.

Actually Rammy if I was sitting in a wheelchair and riding over those grass pavers I think some Preparartion H might be in order. Aesthetically not as pleasing, the crushed granite would be a much smoother surface.

My opinion for improving Monroe Park would be the elimination of the place as a haven for homeless people. No doubt there should be a place where they could congregate but a green area where young students habitate is not it. Can you imagine how many dads of potential coeds have espyed the park and the homeless denizens sleeping in the place and said "No way Jose?"

right
You don't want Buffy to know about the existence of Denizens in her world

Sorry, I think the denizens of this world have just as much right to it as Buffy, but if Buffy's dad is paying the bills then he has a right to expect a certain amount of safety for her. That may be a perception on his part, but it is the reality.

I wonder if the cricket players will prefer the gravel to the grass when they take out the asphalt.

Crushed granite is not gravel. Take a look at the running trail at Byrd Park or the one across from the old Richmond Memorial Hospital.

To me, gravel is any crushed stone. I agree there is are major differences between different stone products and know the type they plan to use and think it will be much better than the current asphalt and is different (and better for this use) than the typical first thought gravel.

I would rather see a brick pathway than crushed stone. But then again, laying brick would cost a lot....although very aesthetically pleasing.

But I don't like the idea of crushed stone....you can't remove the snow without tearing up the walkway, it will take maintenance to prevent grass from growing through it, and it will be difficult to remove trash, needles, syringes, butts, etc.

And while homeless need someplace...we had homeless in the late 70's/early 80's but they didn't overwhelm the park like I've seen them do now.

I'm all for this, but $6 million? Doesn't that seem really high?

I might be mistaken but I did not see a time frame 6million could mean it will be done really soon and fast.. Also the Cafe sounds expensive as well as the "granite water feature " depending on the size..

The only improvement I would care about is the city selling that dunghole of a park to VCU...where it can then be fixed properly and made safe(r).

Also, we should start killing all stray cats and dogs.

And why stop there? What about the malcontents and mentally feeble? I suggest we start with Razor.
