INDIANAPOLIS -- Richmond's Chris Mooney spent Thursday at Boston College interviewing for its coaching job.

He arrived in Indianapolis for the Final Four and decided his future was where he felt most comfortable -- back at Richmond.

Mooney told ESPN.com Friday he accepted a seven-year extension with the Spiders. He said staying at Richmond had nothing to do with BC. Mooney wasn't offered the Eagles job but according to a source he was the top choice of Boston College athletic director Gene DeFilippo.

So when did he make the deal? Interviews on Thursday in Boston and the next day, Friday, he is in Indy for the final four. Did UR catch him between airports or something with papers in hand?

This is why it's a good idea to have an agent.

I think they already had a deal written up waiting to be signed earlier in the week. Apparantly BC didn't offer him the job so I guess that left him with signing the extention at Richmond.

The report states that he was at the top of BC's list, however BC still has interviews to go. He simply decided he wanted to be at Richmond.

maybe he has a shellfish allergy... then there'd really be no reason to live in Boston

I think he mentioned in an RTD article that he was never offered the job. Of course sometimes they wait to gauge the interest level before officially offering the job since they don't like getting turned down. I wonder if he is planning on sticking around at Richmond for a while or if he just took the bump in pay and is putting off leaving a year. Time will tell I suppose.

I have one.

Chris Mooney is an ok coach. I wouldnt think he's ACC level.

The source said he was the top choice of the BC AD. Maybe the AD isn't the one making the final decision.
