I know this will pain most of you but EVERY run in I had with their fans was incredible. Now granted I am in a bit of a different position than most of you but in years past that hasn't mattered. They were super nice to me an very complimentary. I will post my Blaine Taylor conversation later it's epic!

Why am I posting this? Because we are all quick to point out the bad. All schools have good fans and bad ones.

Now that I am done ODU sucks! ;)

My only real gripe with ODU fans is their mascot looks like he's strung out on 'shrooms.

My run in with a ODU fan was about 15 mins after the game. He spotted my Rowdy Ram shirt and walked up and put his like right up to mine and said your not so Rowdy now are ya? Than started talking some serious sh*t. I told him to get out my face and he responded with "Why B*tch?" I told him cuz it would suck spending the championship in the hospital rather than on the floor. Then some VCU fans came into break it up and told me not sink to the scumbags level. Weird enough I heard a couple of stories where ODU fans messed with Rowdies.

Besides that guy ODU fans left me alone cuz they realized there's no reason to be a jackass after the game.

My only issue was this one middle aged guy who was morally offended by the students turning their backs on ODU for the introductions and made sure to talk trash to me about it on the way out.

I hope he sits in the same seats tomorrow night.

My Run in as a VCU pep member was when i was moving the equipment out and a guy stopped me and said sorry about the game but your band is still better then ours you guys kicked ass

I had no problems tonight either - A LOT more with the Mason fans the night before!! I must have really made them mad though - the same group came back tonight wearing blue and white with a paw print on their faces and cheered for ODU??!!

TTL PKG,

You had a good run in with me at basketball...until I 360 windmill dunked on you. Then...not so much

Yeah, Im sorry but if he was in our shoes and went to VCU he'd be doing the exact same thing. Its all in good fun. And like the one guy on this thread said, there's good fans and bad at every school. I mean after we beat Mason on Saturday there were some nice GMU fans that actually came up to me and said good game, hope ya'll beat ODU, we hate em as much as you do. And of course there were the GMU fans who wanted top start fights because we beat them.

But to get upset over a stupid thing like that is dumb, I mean its not like we talked crap about his family, or started calling racial slurs or anything like that. Plus we are still kids most of us, we're not always gonna be 100% mature like the older generation thinks we should be.

If ODU fans get upset about the stuff VCU fans do - like turning their backs to the opposing team during player introductions (I thought that was standard procedure, like making noise when the other team has possession? I've been to plenty of games at plenty of schools and most of them do that too), then maybe they should go to Maryland games. Against Duke, they were regularly chanting "F___ You Scheyer", among other obscenities, and it was being played on national television.

It was a good, close, hard-fought game, and though I hate losing as much as anyone, I think most of us took it in stride (i.e. we didn't have anyone arrested, to my knowledge).

And yes, I think the Mason fans were more obnoxious, but that's probably because they lost and they had the 90-minute trip back to Fairfax to think about it.

It's funny because we had been kind of sparring for most of the night, not anything mean or derogatory, but just comments about the other team's play said just loud enough for the other to hear. I hadn't looked back at him at all though and I had figured he was a younger guy like myself. It wasn't until he starting rubbing it after the game did I see that he had to be pushing the upper side of his 40s (no offense to the wise, mature 40 year old Rams around here :) ) He kept saying that class rises to the top, so just let him know that I guess the William & Mary Tribe would be our next CAA Champions.

I got to say, I shook hands with a number of very well-mannered ODU fans tonight (of course it's much easier to be a good winner than a good loser). It was a nice difference from some of the folks I've seen in Norfolk.

Pav, did you know that was me when I spoke with you? I was with Smudge/Phage/Wafic (all the same person) and saw you before the game.

Yeah, took me a minute to figure it out though (everybody without silly hats needs to wear nametags).

Also met a few good folks in the club after the game too.

Here is what Wikipedia has to say about fans like the ones you refer to:

Several psychologists have studied fan loyalty, and what causes a person to be a loyal fan, that sticks with a team through adversity, rather than a fairweather fan, that switches support to whatever teams happen to be successful at the time.
