My run in with the hated ODU fans....

It could be worse...ever been to a WVU game? Talk about crossing the line. ODU vs VCU is a great rival and one that makes the season interesting and fun. If either team dominated it wouldn't be much of a rival, ala VCU vs UR.

But if you thought yesterday was bad trust me whan I tell you it is nothing compared to an SEC football game such as UT vs ALABAMA. I have seen 50-60 year old women fighting at those contest. And the sad thing is most of the fans did not even attend either school. Anyway I digress. Good rivalry and the fans are just that fans. As long as there is no physical stuff it's all good.
 
I have observed fan behavior cross the line many a time for UR, ODU and VCU fans over the years. It's nothing new and considering the passion involved in these rivalries will continue into the future. That is no license for boorish behavior however and I feel all acts of this nature should be called out.

One thing that has changed for the better is that these bitter rivalries haven't spilled over on to the court. It is a tribute to the athletic departments involved that the intensity remains but is channeled into the play.

We will have our opportunities to either take the high road or descend into boorishness in the future. Just remember that as a fan you represent VCU and your actions reflect on how the university is perceived.

That said it does seem as if ODU does have an inordinate amount of poor sports.
 
Most of the ODU fans I ran into were awesome. Of course, they quickly yelled ODU in my face and then I say "Good Win." Then it's like they become normal :lol:

There is some fans that are douchebags but the majority are passionate about the team as we are to VCU. Hence, why most of us went to the Coliseum bar and joked around during the game break with some beers. :D
