NADEAU LEADS FRONTRUNNING RAMS AT PALISADES CLASSIC
4-13-09
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Junior Vincent Nadeau set a blistering pace, entering the clubhouse 12 strokes under par to lead Virginia Commonwealth University to a five-shot lead at the Palisades Collegiate Classic Monday at the Palisades Country Club.
Nadeau tore into the par-72 course with a first round 67. His second round was even more impressive, as Nadeau carded a 7-under 65. Nadeau and Riley Wheeldon of Louisville are tied for the individual lead (132).
VCU totaled 552 strokes in the opening two rounds to lead Louisville (557) and Marquette (567).
Despite his outstanding day, Nadeau didn’t record the lowest round of the day by a Ram. That honor went to sophomore Mark Jargren, who fired a career-low 64 in Monday’s second round. Jargren, who carded a 72 in his opening round, currently sits fourth overall.
Also for the Rams, junior Rafael Campos (-3) sits 12th, junior Lanto Griffin (-1) is 19th and freshman Even Boyer (E) ranks 22nd after two rounds.
“None of this means a thing if we don’t follow it up with a strong finish tomorrow,†Said VCU Coach Matt Ball. “We are trying to make a final charge to the NCAA Tournament. Being just outside the at-large ‘bubble’, we have to play great here or win the CAA Tournament later this week. We know what we have to do, the guys are playing better. We just have to deliver down the stretch.â€
Tuesday’s final round is scheduled to tee off at 8:30 a.m.
Team Scores:
1. VCU 282-270-552
2. Louisville 290-267-557
3. Marquette 283-284-567
4. Old Dominion 294-278-572
5. Belmont Abbey 292-285-577
