Naming Rights

Somehow Farm Bureau doesn't complement a urban university.

Anything can compliment anything if it is followed by a check

i think it should be a company based in Richmond and a company that sounds cool. so:
Velocity Micro Pavillion
if that doesn't work:
Pokemon Pavillion

Their ads are already all over the game programs...might as well step up

Will their check bounce? That is all that matters.

I think we should get at lease $250K/yr, $500K/yr should not be out of the question. AD office just needs to work harder.  ;)

With the economy in the shape it is, it's going to be more difficult to get big bucks from companies that are being watched by their stockholders.

Naming rights are about advertisement, and it's the same as putting their name on the hood of a stock car in NASCAR. When the logo is displayed on TV over and over again throughout, it reinforces that brand.

$1.4million seems like a drop in the bucket, and with the TV package that VCU has been getting, not including ESPN games, the brand will be getting good exposure.

I imagine it would be part of the advertising and publicity budget.

Are we set on the fact that we need to call in a "Pavilion"? What if court has a better ring with the sponsor? I know we want to reflect the mult-purpose nature of the building, but if the name has no ring it will never be used and the sponsor won't get their money's worth.

Are the naming rights for the 3-point t-shirts up for grab too? I believe Wachovia will be rebranded by next season and who wants a "Wells Fargo T-Shirt" doesn't have a good ring to it.

Maybe we can switch it around to "Wells Fargo Arena" (or Vault? haha) and hand out Farm Bureau T-shirts?
"WHO WANTS A FARM BUREAU T-SHIRT!"... meh... lol

I agree that naming rights are a form of advertising. It should be noted, however, that some companies are taking a much lower profile. Banks and auto companies are two good examples. The big tents at NASCAR sponsored by General Motors may not be around much longer. Having said that, I think the Athletic Department will be much more on the offensive. They are good at what they are doing, and they will get us a good sponsor with significant dollars.
