NBAdraft.net 2010 Mock - Larry Sanders 9th pick

funny...i dont see mr softee anywhere...or any of GMU's awesome recruiting classes of 08 & 09....
But i really dont think Larry is really a #9 after next year...time will tell

I love Larry but i would take Monroe, Patrick Patterson, Avery Bradley and Ebanks before him easily.

Larry is number #9 because of the limited publicity he gets. People have seen the games where he has dominated but they haven't really seen where he struggles. Sure everyone has seen the games against Mason, but have they seen the ones where he has struggled to play 20 minutes.

NBA Scouts have seen them all, Larry is #9 because of his potential to do great things

sure nba scouts have but nbadraft.net is not run by nba scouts. last year at this time bj mullens was a top 5 pick from them.

and john wall is the number one next year. its all based on potential man. bj mullens is a 7-0 275lb freshman center. with that size he could easily be top 5 if he had stuck around another year or two. But its kind of disappointing that Mullens is going pro too early instead.

Well if they are going by potential then they should have him in the 2011 draft because he won't be a #9 pick by this time next year. So still, the potential for next year isn't there.

Just my opinion, but I believe that if Sanders entered the draft this year, he'd go ahead of Mr. amErica - and he deserves to know that.

The NBA cares about 0.5 percent what you've already done, and 99.5 percent what you may be able to do, in the future. Don't forget that; if the NBA drafts you, "you're ready enough," and that's all there is to it. NBA teams are willing to wait for talent to bloom late, just as colleges are.

College fans unanimously feel that under-class prospects "aren't ready," and should stay in school (for the fans' own personal greed) ... NBA fans feel unainmously that "bring him up" and let's see what he can do (also for their own personal gratification).

The difference is that if you stay in school, you get room and board and books (that you'll likely never look at); if you go to the NBA, your'e rich for the rest of your life with any kind of sound financial advise.

If Sanders stays at VCU another year - and it appears he will - he's got more to lose than gain, in terms of his eventual professional riches. Only he and his family are qualified to influence that decision. Everyone else is self-absorbed, and shamefully biased in their analysis.

bighorn...I agree with your post. However, if Sanders should stay at VCU for his senior year, his stock is sure to rise as the '10-'11 version of the Rams should be outstanding! Would waiting an extra year to possibly be drafted in the top 5 or 10 be worth sticking around from a financial standpoint? He'd have a college degree to boot.

It's like this ... you're either a bird-in-the-hand kind of guy, or you like to roll the dice.

Let's put it in simpler terms: a higher being tells me I am assured of hitting a home run in today's softball game ... however, I can pass on that deal with the knowledge that the experience gained today, I am likely to hit two home runs - maybe even three - tomorrow.

I'll take the one home run today.

It might rain tomorrow.

As for the degree, a college sheepskin is about as valuable to an NBA first-round draft choice as another neck tie may be Donald Trump.

I think I'm more of a role the dice kind of a guy. Anyone can hit a home run in today's softball game. How many are likely to hit three tomorrow? Now that's something people will remember and I'm sure I'd be rewarded for it too!

As for the college degree, let's hope he stays healthy so this is never an issue!

Its easy to be a roll the dice guy when you don't have to make the decision. If it is between guaranteed 3 million vs the chance of getting 4-5 million I'm going with the Guaranteed 3 and as we can see most College kids are

If we're talking about a difference of $3M vs $4M, I'd probably take the guaranteed $3M too. However, for $5M+, I would strongly consider waiting another year.

I don't think there's a right or wrong answer. We've seen athletes go both ways. However, I would agree that most take the money and run.
