...be patient little grasshopper our new coach is from Akron (that's #1 Akron). He is already bringing in some good recruits.

You know what - I just came back to this thread to post a link to the roster (just saw it this morning). Look at how international the team is again!!!!! That was the BEAUTY of our soccer program, IMO before. This roster is SICK. Now I am excited.

14 US Americans (12 from VA)
3 Caribbeans
3 Central Americans
2 Africans
1 Asian
2 Europeans
2 South Americans

All we are missing is an Australian and we'd have someone from every continent (sans Antarctica)!!!!!!!!

Nice to see.

Let's sign a kangaroo and a polar bear. Problem solved.

Coach Gif has a number of us really fired up about the football season! Can't wait!!

actually a penquin is more appropriate...but seriously, I need to make the effort to support the Rams on the pitch other than looking for their scores in the paper....I need to plan on making a few home matches this year
Let's have a pre-match happy hour somewhere...alcohol and soccer seems like a natural to me

VCU MEN’S SOCCER ANNOUNCES 2010 RECRUITING CLASS

RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University Head Men’s Soccer Coach Dave Giffard has announced his first recruiting class since joining the Rams in January. Giffard and his staff will welcome 15 newcomers to the field for the 2010 season.

The class is highlighted by a crop of talented international standouts including Romena Bowie (Saint Mary, Jamaica), Jose Carlos Castillo (Guatemala City, Guatemala) and Jason Johnson (Saint Anne, Jamaica). Hailing from Manchester High School in Jamaica, Bowie and Johnson were each selected to the Jamaican Senior National Team Camp, after leading their squad to a runner-up finish in 2010 DaCosta Cup competition. Meanwhile, Castillo, who spent two months in the Guatemala Senior National Team Camp in 2009, boasts 45 caps for the Guatemala Youth National Teams.

Along with international talent, VCU will welcome a pair of Division I transfers, three Division II standouts and a host of local products.

“I’m very excited about our 2010 recruiting class,” Giffard said. “To be able to put together a class like this, with as much talent and depth as we have after arriving in January, is exciting. It’s a testament to the hard work of our staff and everyone involved with recruiting student-athletes here at VCU. These players, as well as a few others we hope to add in the next few weeks, will be a great first class for us as we begin the rebuilding of our program. The mix of new players and returners should make for an exciting group this fall.”
