NCAA Tourney Payout

I'm glad VCU is doin' their part to spread some dough around the CAA.....besides, Towson needs to recoup all that trenchcoat money

Does anybody have a breakout of how the funds are paid? I know that the payout system is not fully equal and it favors the team that wins more than the others.

The conference gets a check from the NCAA each season based on its performances in the NCAA tournament the previous six years.

Forty percent of that goes into the CAA's "excellence pool," which is divvied up based on shares that teams accumulate. The other 60 percent is divided equally among the conference's 12 schools.

Anybody have any info on what makes up the "excellence pool"?

Right now we have 2 shares, 1 for making it and another for the win. GMU and ODU have 1 share. We all have a chance to add to that!

B. The “Excellence Pool” [40% of incremental new monies]
Institutions will earn shares in the Excellence Pool in the following manner on an annual basis:
1. Two shares for each NCAA tournament game played in the first year (up to five). In subsequent years, two shares for each NCAA tournament game won (up to four) for each year that those specific NCAA unit(s) remain in the basketball pool distribution. [Note: The formula would not apply to a NCAA tournament play-in game unless additional units were rewarded.
2. One share for having a RPI of 100 or better or a non-conference record better than .500% achieved against teams that are Division I or are RPI “counters”. [Note: All references to the RPI are the NCAA RPI on Selection Sunday.]
3. One share for the regular season champion(s). [In the event of a tie(s), the unit will be split amongst the tied teams.]

Looks like we have 3 shares right now.

I've got us with 4, we played USC and will play Georgetown, and we get 2 for the win over USC....correct? I guess you could say 3 since we haven't played Georgetown yet, but that's guaranteed to take place, so book it! :P

We don't have to give any to Drexel 'cause they're leaving.

does the First four game count as play-in?

Our game shouldn't be considered a "Play-in." The NCAA is acknowledging today's games as the "second Round." Though - I've been wrong before.

The NCAA considers it a tournament game win.

That's true but to most of the sports world they were play in games

That's because they're uninformed. Being an 11 seed, there are at least 23 teams in the 68 team draw considered below VCU. However, they didn't want to make it appear they were expanding just to let more high majors and forcing more automatic qualifiers from low major conferences to play their way in.
