NCAA Transfer & NIL Policies

Can’t we get carmax, genworth, Altria, and dominion, cap one on board lol?

I mean do we even have a sponsor for the siegel center at the moment? Don't know who it is, if we do.

For Memphis it makes sense.... because they play their home Basketball games at FedEx Forum Arena.... so essentially they're already somewhat partnered with Fed Ex.

We currently do not because the E.J. Wade thing fell through, and of course the HDL sponsorship is long gone...as is HDL. At least the federal government isn't forcing us to return the money HDL donated to us.

FedEx has had a partnership with Memphis for quite a while since the company is based there. They donated $3 million in 2010 for a new baseball stadium.

The next bones at VCU could be the new Marlboro man
"Hi, I'm Zeb Jackson, and I'm here to tell you that you can secure your corporate and/or financial risk with Markel Group just like I secure the rock for VCU. The Rams always insure the Siegel Center is jumping, and Markel insures your potential exposure to downside risk in any transaction is limited (subject to liability terms and conditions)"

Color me somewhat pessimistic. We have been notably unsuccessful in landing recognizable, big corporate sponsors to VCU Athletics. This NIL initiative might push some of these companies over the edge to our side. Not so much bc Zeb endorsing something is going to bring in any additional customers, but rather the need for meaningful outside corporate support has never been greater. So the companies that support the program will be deemed as saviors to the program in a manner never seen before. The couple of big, best of breed companies will (or at least should) have there brands ubiquitous with VCU Athletics and the University as a whole.

Well, now's the time to start courting, between this and the Athletic Village.

The closest we've had that wasn't just a naming rights deal was Lumber Liquidators, which was fine until they decided to do shady crap regarding how they sourced their wood and ran afoul of the feds for it.

I think corporations are more willing to help when the need is almost at an emergent level. And we are there. The university and athletic department are at an critical point in terms of being caught in a perfect storm of NIL, Athletic Village and a time of record inflation that is affecting attendance and donations.
This creates a perfect scenario for a company(s) to partner with and take the role of the white knight on horseback riding in to save the program. the Good Will this will create with community is at a never before seen level imo.

@LazyStegosaurus mentioned CoStar. We know a guy who works there, his name is Wayne Epps. If we ended up in that white knight situation I sure wouldn't mind it if it were them.

and the CIO of Markel is a former student athlete from VCU track. I met with him and Ed last year. I know the hesitation/ delay of getting involved was that Markel was already engaged with VCU Health (Massey Cancer Center I think). And there were issues about competing against Massey Cancer for the same donor. And then of course Markel would have to be willing. But right now the future direction of the athletic dept is on line. I think it is a way more compelling cause for a large company to support than in years prior.
