An 18-point a game scorer as a junior and all-league performer, Graham had offers from Cleveland State and Northeastern. Clemson, Cincinnati, Marshall and George Mason looked at him during the summer, according to Katrina Graham, Treveon’s mother.

“They came in early,” Graham said. “They showed more interest than anyone and to me and my son, we felt that my son was a priority to them. VCU always considered him their No. 1 recruit. My son is shy and they made him feel comfortable.

Honestly, I'm not trying to infer anything here and I'll leave it at this, but I can't ever remember reading the words "My son is shy" in a press release about a star basketball player giving a verbal commit.

I mean, I'm sure its happened, I just can't remember it.

Yeah, you tend to get stuff more like this out of parents.

“This particular situation is one that they’re going to build a team around him basically,” Gerry Vilarino said. “They’re going to give him a chance to have the ball in his hands early on.

So what do we know about our newest Ram RamNation?

Graham, who has received an offer from Delaware and is getting interest from Miami, UMass and George Mason, lives in Bowie but rises as early as 5 a.m. each day and takes a bus over 60 miles to St. Mary’s Ryken, where he attends classes, sits through team meetings, film sessions and study hall before practicing, which is common for a player playing for Ryken. According to Tallman, eight of his 10 players reside in Northern Calvert or Prince George’s counties.
...
Although Graham can really excel by shooting and playing the 2-guard, he can also score off the wing. Depending on the matchup each night, Graham can move between the 2 and 3 and colleges are looking at him in the same capacity. The 6-foot-4 junior wears size 15 shoes and just recently turned 16 years old.

“Tre has really bought in to what we preach,” Tallman added. “I tell the guys all the time... ‘If you work hard every day and bring a great attitude, then you're going to play and good things are going to happen to you.’ Some guys figure it out sooner than others. Tre figured it out on day one. I give his parents a lot of credit for the type of person that he is.”

Treveon Graham wasn't the first name that came out of many gurus conversation in D.C. When playing in an always tough WCAC, there is DeMatha, Gonzaga and the rest have to claw their way in the mix. After 4 tournaments with Mike Beasley's (Triple Threat) program based in D.C., he is now one of the most coveted in this region. Graham is a physically gifted Swing Forward with Pro athleticism. Coach Ardie (Director) of Triple Threat and uncle of Miami Heat Mike Beasley, says that this kid is one of his hardest workers on and off the court. At St. Mary Ryken, Graham was a terror to most of the WCAC. At 16 years old he is one of the youngest prospects in the 2011 class, which is why his upside is off the chart and scouts are drooling after recent performances. Graham was scheduled to workout at University of West Virginia Saturday, but an opportunity to be seen in front of scouting services, and stage himself as one of the premier wings was too tantalizing to turn away. Expect this 6’5” swingman to put on a display, in a featured matchup with B-more's own Durand Johnson in the last game of the evening. Also expect Graham to claim his spot as D.C.'s best kept secret!

Hey guys, all you need to know about Graham is that he was 1st team in the WCAC as a junior. Look at the teams in that conference (DeMatha, Gonzaga, St. Johns etc.). Ryken is a little known high school and he also played for an under-the-radar AAU program, so he was not given exposure by the major recruiting services, but he's a player. He's probably the best player in DC that nobody really knew about outside of DC. He could be REALLY good at the CAA level. He put up big numbers in AAU all summer long but because his teams never made it too far, his exposure was limited. He was one of those guys coaches hope no one else sees. I think you'll see this guy become a revelation his senior year as people realize how good he is. Heck, he's already pretty good as it stands. He was our #1 target the past couple of months and we got him.

Credit goes to Mike Jones for really busting his butt on this one. Graham is a very nice piece in a pretty impressive 2011 class. Thinking about the fact that UVA fans would be happy with Briante and Pierria' alone is pretty sweet.

let's hope he is still around to sign when the time comes

I'll have to trust coach Smart's eye for talent on this one. Not much out there about Graham, videos didn't display anything out the ordinary and other than scout.com (who didn't rate him), the other sites do not even have him listed. Honestly after a summer of the types of players we were associated with, this verbal was a little underwhelming. He's definitely under the radar.

I need one of the insiders to tell him he's the next Micheal Doles to feel a bit better about the verbal (which DB kinda did while I was typing this post).

I trust our coaches recruiting judgement, regardless of number of stars...so, I'm excited to hear we are getting a verbal from a 6' 5" 16-year-old who sounds like he is still growing and has physical talents. Sounds like a future SF [once in black and gold].

Doesn't this leave one remaining scholly for 2011 class? Any insight who staff is targeting specifically for that slot, or position--I assume best big they can land. Any chance we hold that scholly for the following year?

Tough conference to play in, same one as Jordan Burgess who is at O'Connell.

Should be a great signing for VCU hopefully this Nov.

I would also love to get confirmation of his height, seen him listed from 6'4" to 6'7"

Let me also say I welcome Treveon to the Rams Nation! If he's good enough for the coach he's certainly good enough for me.

Good one Finance

Sounds promising to me, we'll just have to wait and see. Under the Radar doesn't mean what it used to in todays recruiting sub culture.

This is a great get if the kid shows up. However, his mom made a comment about him playing early. How does this happen with Brad being a Senior, and Reco McCarter a 91 rated ESPN player at 6'7" and a year under his belt playing at the same position.

If Brad progresses as we all hope it'll be tough for Reco to get the minutes. Is Treveon rated higher than Reco?
