New 2011 Commit - Treveon Graham

I believe this is what she said:

"They came in early,” Graham said. “They showed more interest than anyone and to me and my son, we felt that my son was a priority to them. VCU always considered him their No. 1 recruit. My son is shy and they made him feel comfortable."

VCU got in early recruiting him, not that she expects early playing time.

This is a great get if the kid shows up. However, his mom made a comment about him playing early. How does this happen with Brad being a Senior, and Reco McCarter a 91 rated ESPN player at 6'7" and a year under his belt playing at the same position.

If Brad progresses as we all hope it'll be tough for Reco to get the minutes. Is Treveon rated higher than Reco?

Thanks Chill. Finance had a quote that I thought his mom used. After re-reading the quote by finance had nothing to do with Treveon but rather supported his point that parents are a bit more candid.

Thanks for the clarification. Glad to see that Mike JONES is getting some recognition as well.

Great get. This kid is young still growing and can handle the ball. I remember Brian Cook from the U of I several years back. Cook was a 16 year old 6'6 wing player when he committed. But arrived at U of I a 6'10 mobile post player. David Robinson was the same way 6'6 or 6'7 when he arrived but still growing.

How cool would it be if this kid grew and maintained his guard mobility and handle? He could be number 3 with regards to being a first rounder. More importantly he would be a nightmare match up in our league.

On thing for sure if half these new kids pan out VCU will be big and good.

Being from the D.C. area, I gotta say, I'm excited about the prospect of just how good this kid could be for us.

There is also the possibility that he'll continue to grow and end up being 6'8" with the skills of a 2-3 guard

I'm sure Shaka and staff saw something really convincing in this young man that made them want him on our team. I look forward to seeing some of that this year on his high school team.

Welcome Treveon!

Here is a link to ODU board where DB is selling ODU on the merits of ODU recruiting Graham.

What the he!! were you doing DB, trying to get ODU the lead on someone VCU was recruiting? ;)

Are those tall Toronto players any good? Do you know them and should we be recruiting them?

We were after Braeden Anderson a 6'9 big who is not from Toronto but from Alberta and has since been transplanted to Florida. We were recruiting him but he's fallen off a bit this summer so we're not involved anymore. I don't think there are any others from that area that we are after.

The 2011 class is kind of weak on bigs. We will not be going after guards anymore and will use the last scholarship on a big man, either JUCO or freshman. The pickings are somewhat slim this year for big men.

I think you guys should focus on Graham's numbers, when you play in the WCAC, you're not going up against small potatoes night in and night out. This is one of the best high school leagues in the nation. Graham averaged a double-double as a 16-year old junior, scoring 18.3 points per game including a streak of 20 straight games in double figures and scored in double figures in 27 of 29 games. He also pulled down 10.4 rebounds per game and was named to the WCAC first-team. Keep in mind this guy played JV the year before. He played on a weaker team in his region and was the key defensive assignment for opposing teams night in and night out, and he still put up big numbers.

He ripped up the AAU circuit this year after joining Triple Threat and was named Most Outstanding Prospect at Hoop Group Elite Camp Session 2 a little while ago as well. His upside is pretty big and he could be a very nice contributor for us.

Welcome to the Ram Family, Treveon. This is lining up to be two years worth of havoc wreaking, long, athletic and smart recruits.

Question: Do we really go after a big with the final scholly or do we still need a pure PG? Maybe there is so much confidence in Darius and the two swing guards for '11 that we do go after a big or maybe Larkin is the last piece in a pretty amazing looking class. Thoughts?

Darius looks pretty darn good right now...but I don't expect Larkin is in our sights anymore, nor do I think he's thinking about us. He had his sights set on high major offers from the get-go. I remember him saying that Wake is his favorite a little while ago, not sure whether that is still the case. With Pierria' Henry, Briante Weber and Darius Theus all able to play the point, I think we're okay in that department. We're going after some pretty well-regarded bigs in 2012 and 2013 as well but the plan was to get a big and tall scoring wing which we just got in Graham. It's always better to balance out the classes so that we have a good number of bigs and guards at any given time. I like that we are adding size and getting bigger, which really screwed us going against major conference teams. You can outgun CAA teams with good guards, but it's a lot harder when you have major schools with lots of size.

I was thinking the same thing-we are gonna be huge the next year or two or three-nobody in the country will be bigger I don't think especially if these guys grow any.

Speaking of balancing out the classes what are the chances we sit on the extra scholarship until 2012?

Although his high school plays in a tough league Treveon comes from a beautiful area in the Leonardtown/St Mary's area of Maryland. My daughter went to undergraduate school there, as did her husband, and I spent a lot of time (and money) there as a result. This place reminds me much of the Eastern Shore and many Amish live in the vicinity on beautiful farms next to the north shore of the Potomac River across from Westmoreland County in Virginia.

Treveon's mother sounds most astute in her analysis of the recruitment of her son. Certainly she will make the drive many times across the Harry W. Nice bridge and down 301 into Richmond to see her son play in the Siegel Center. The Grahams sound like a wonderful addition to the VCU family.

Probably about the same of the chance that we would have sat on the Scholly we had this season
