For those looking for a place close to VCU to watch the away games, or for a place to go before and after games, there is a new place to go in the Fan. City Dog, which up to now has only had a location in The Slip, has opened a new place in The Fan. It is at 1309 W. Main, which is just off campus. The new location has 5 or 6 really great TVs and the manager told me last night they want to televise every VCU game that they can get. He said if they could not get TV they would try to do the radio broadcast, if they can figure it out. Lots of VCU stuff all around. The owner of the old site in The Slip was actually in Philly last year for the NCAA game and is starting to be a big supporter.

Only problem right now is that don't have beer. But I was assured that they would get their license on November 2nd.

Maybe VCU and the Nation can get them hooked up with more VCU stuff. Maybe a potential advertiser?

Food is mostly bar food (great hot dogs!), but really good. Prices are good. I suggested they do some specials for games to get people in.

If you are in the area check it out. I think they do take-out as well. They are open to suggestions if you have any ideas. Great people and it is a pretty good location for VCU students and fans.

So just how many free hot dogs are you getting this shameless piece of promotion?

In all seriousness it sounds like a great new place for Ram fans. My big question, can I bring the kids?

You can, but they won't be able to get beer until early Nov. Maybe in addition to the watch parties they can come up with some pre game specials for home games or post game in the case of afternoon games. It sounds like it could be a nice spot to watch a game or get together before a game. I haven't been to the Fan location yet but the original location in the slip is nice.

What can I say, if I like it, I like it! Try the Tennessee Slaw Dog.

Between Mulligans, HTG and this place, Main St is bursting with sports bars.

Thanks. I went back an re-read my post, and yes, it reads like a commercial for City Dogs. But what can I say, I love hot dogs!

Talked to someone at VCU yesterday and I think they are going to try to get something going with them at the new location. Maybe a pre/post-game event or two , if the owners are interested.

It just gives us more options. heck, if all of us tried to squeeze into The Village, nobody would get in!

I heard that they got their liquor license so this place might be worth stopping in before or after the game Thursday.

Can anything in NYC ever really be called "the Village?" Maybe they could call it the "the Sprawling, Over-populated, Still-not-cheap-enough-for-my-wallet Big Apple Cafe"

New York is a great city--no more expensive than Washington, D.C., San Francisco, London, or Paris! I got married in Lower Manhattan, been back dozens of times, and have fond memories. By the way, some of the best hotdogs in Richmond are at the Siegel Center. Not much on "fixings" but just great hotdogs!

so I went to eat at this new city dog...solely because I saw it on ram nation. Well honestly I was a little disappointed lol. I took my girl and we both got hot dogs and fries, mine were the chili cheese fries. The hot dog tasted really good but wasn't really that big. Fries were different than any others I have had but were really good, just lacked much cheese with the "chili and cheese fries." Service was very friendly but little slow. Prices were about right. Overall 3.5 Ram heads out of 5.
