The top assistant coaches in the nation are congregating near Portland Oregon for the annual Villa 7 Consortium put on by VCU and Nike. Coaches Anthony Grant and current coach Shaka Smart both sprung forth from this consortium of the greatest young basketball minds in the nation. The next VCU coach may just come from this batch of considerably talented assistants. Jerry Colangelo with USA Basketball kicked things off today and a number of highly distinguished coaches and leaders in the basketball world will be speaking tomorrow including Butler's Brad Stevens, Xavier's Chris Mack, Syracuse's Jim Boeheim, and Missouri's Mike Anderson.
This program is one of the many great things about VCU that sets it above its peers in the CAA. If you'll notice from the list of attendees, assistants from George Mason and Northeastern are in attendance at our event. The AD at ODU is also in attendance. Yet another thing of which we can be extremely proud here at VCU. Here are the confirmed attendees at Villa 7, who knows? Perhaps the next coach (whether 2 or 10 years from now) will come from this group!
