Man, I just can't stop thinking about how he has turned it on as of late. Last night was huge. He did such a good job of defending Jenkins. Being able to have the mental resolve to stay on Jenkins was critical in that game. Jenkins is a great player and is gonna score points, but not letting those baskets get you down shows real maturity.

Not to mention that his three point clip appears to be a gaining some speed as of late. And I love that he is finding a way to get to the free throw line. I've been saying since his sophomore year that he shows a quickness and agility that reminds me of Shuler. He can cut so quick and get to the rim. Lately the shots have been falling and I'm happy for the kid. If nothing else he can start racking up some fouls on their big men.

Just wanted to get that out. Nixon has been really, really fun to watch.

The SILENT ASSASSIN has been so nasty lately, lets hope he keeps it up, and I would have loved to see a Rob/Ed double team on Mr. NBA, he would have folded like a piece of paper

I don't want to be mr debbie downer but...Jenkins did have 20 points lol. And the entire 2nd half jenkins was double teamed. Do get me wrong I love Nixon on both end o the courts, but aren't we maybe a little too excited?

Dude is a stud! If he doesn't win CAA defensive POY something is wrong! Jenkins' #'s look alot better than they were and got most of it early on 3's and not much else. Ed dialed in and locked him up and nothing was better than when he pinned his spin move off the backboard...unfortunately they got the board and scored, but it was still Ed saying get that ish outta here! Nasty defender. I see that energy and committment to defense rubbing off on the other guys, especially the way Rob attacks people on the perimiter.

sometimes it's not so much about how many points a player scores, but rather when he scores them. sure, jenkins dropped 20 last night, but that was a VERY quiet 20. he scored most of them early, and was pretty much shut down whenever hofstra attempted to make a run to get back into the game.

Jenkins is that good folks, and so is Nixon. Give them both credit!

yeah I see your point, but isn't one of the reason he was shut down was because of the double team? I will say that one block he had was sick and got me out of my seat real fast!

He scored a very quick 15 and then was completely scoreless for TWENTY minutes. His last 5 were pretty meaningless. He scored below his average and we won by 15. Very successful if you ask me.

I would have to say that Hofstra got OUT COACHED! Out played, and beat. It's a team game.

Well, I guess there is a couple things that factor into the equation for me:

-Jenkins had 15 points at the 5:45 mark left in the first half. Thirteen minutes later Jenkins had 17 points. He finished with 20 points. That is fine with me. We have given (I know Mercury knows what I'm saying) a lot of opposing players their career highs. Always seems to happen against us.

- Nixon wasn't just good last night. He is CONSTANTLY, night-in and night-out, guarding either the best ball-handler, shooter, or player from the opposing team.

- Double team or not. Nixon is a factor in that. And a double team is only successful when you have the ability to set that scheme up. In a high-pace game like that there isn't always time to scramble a double team together.

Ed doesn't get enough credit, on either side. Definitely the best defensive player in the CAA but i don't know if they'll give him the nod for everything he has done against the opposing teams best player night in and night out.

agreed. I have also noticed the career highs of other players. And if anyone is going to gaurd jenkins I want it to be nixon. He played 34 minutes last night, and he was working. I was just curious what others thought in terms of how much of it was nixon's gifted defensive ability and how much was the coaching scheme (double teams, etc.). I've noticed that whoever the other teams best player is usually Shaka will either throw a bunch of different players at them (theus, nixon, b-burg), or in jenkins case double team the crap out of them and force other players to hit shots. Over all great night for Shaka, nixon, and the rest of the team.

odu would say the same thing about bazemore, not really sure I agree with them but they would make that argument.

If that's who it comes down to b/w Ed and Baze I'm aight either way. Ed just doesn't get the defensive stats (steals, blocks) that other players gets, but he denies his match-up every night as good, if not better than anyone I've seen in the league.

He may have scored 20 but it took him 39 minutes and 17 shots to do it... and he was worn out at the end with nothing left... Ed Nixon has been the guy with the job to guard the best guard on the other team every game and he just keeps coming up big on D... Defensive POY so far...
