Until this past season, he played with his back toward the basket.

Wilson spent his summer honing his skills facing the basket. He became a more complete player, adding an outside game to his inside game.

For his efforts, Wilson, a junior at North Port High, is the Herald-Tribune Boys Basketball Player of the Year.

Wilson's off-season goal is to become a better leader heading into his senior season.

"That's one reason we haven't gone very far, we haven't had a vocal leader," said Wilson. "It's important, because every team needs a leader. That's what I'm going to focus on: that, school work and getting better."
