BOSTON - With the Northeastern-Wright State contest tied at 67-67 with four seconds left, Chaisson Allen grabbed a rebound, dribbled up court and released a half-court shot that beat the buzzer and gave the Huskies a thrilling 70-67 win over the Raiders Saturday at Matthews Arena. Allen finished the day with a game-high 21 points, eight rebounds and six assists.

Allen, his teammates and the fans then mobbed the court in celebration.

"Once I got the rebound, I didn't know how much time was on the clock," Allen said afterwards. "So I checked the clock and saw that there was two seconds left and I could get one of two dribbles in. Once I released it and saw it in the air, I felt like it had a chance. Then it dropped."

"He got a shot better than anything I could have drawn up," said Northeastern head coach Bill Coen. "I have the utmost respect for the Wright State basketball program. I thought both teams played extremely hard. Both teams made winning basketball plays. Chase Allen just made the last one of the afternoon."

Allen's buzzer-beater came after an intense battle between two teams both ranked in the Collegeinsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll. Wright State, ranked No. 13 in the poll, got out to a fast start, developing a 12-point lead before eight minutes had gone by. Vaughn Duggins knocked down a pair of threes, including one at 12:47 that put the Raiders up 19-7.

Wright State's only loss before was at #14 Washington.
Now 3-2 with no quality wins (Idk if this is the same Wright State that we have heard in the past few years.

Hopefully it ends up being a quality win for the Huskies and the conference.Wins vs. Portland St., Belmont, and Central Michigan).

fans rushed the court??? See the if a tree fell in the woods post. They had a horrible crowd. You can tell they have made improvements to the arena, better lights, overall brighter and really nice new glass for the hockey arena. Could NU b-ball suffer the same fate as football?

I'll point you to my post in If tree falls thread but basically there was no one there because it was played during thanksgiving break. Major ram you haven't been paying attention if u don't really know the situation with NU fball. NU basketball is one of the marquee sports at the school along with hockey. Football was cut for three reasons:

1. Parsons field was a joke. It was a high school facility posing as a FCS home. Several years ago we had a deal with Bob Kraft(the owner of the patriots) to build a stadium in downtown boston and Mayor menino basically shut the deal down. Once the Kraft deal went kaput so did any real chance of football surviving at NU.

2. Product. Rocky hager was a program killer. He decimated the program via poor recruiting and awful on the field coaching. Great guy off the field but simply could not compete with the UD's, UR, and JMU's of the world when it comes down to it.

3. Mix the first two ingridients together and you create apathy for the student population. The students didn't care how the football team did because the perception was they suck and the facility sucks even more. Mix in the increased travel costs due to joining the CAA and NU football was pretty much dead man walking the last two years.

There are many reasons why Bball at NU will not get cut:

1. History: Basketball at NU has a really long history behind it with some really solid NBA players(JJB and of course the Late great Reggie Lewis). You guys are "familar" with our NCAA history....

2. Money: The bball program stands to get a decent amount of change from football getting cut. So you'll see potentially a buy game here and there for NU.

3. Renovations: While the renovations were done primarily for Hockey It's definitely helped with attendence this year so far(WSU game not withstanding). NU has made an investment in wanting basketball to suceed. Now if they make an investment in getting Coen an extension on that contract then I'll be really happy.

4. Product: The product on the court since we entered the CAA has been solid. We're one of only a few teams in the conference since we entered(ODU and I think Mason are the other two) to be at least .500 or better every year we've been in the conference. So on that level I feel like we've done OK for ourselves.

So bottom line is Major Bball sure as heck isn't getting the same fate as Fball.

VCU put up 5700+ during thanksgiving break

Some teams just don't draw well no shame in that

that don't mean we need to keep their nondrawing butts in the Association.
