seems like a very solid get for them...rivals 3 star, scout 2 star, espn 87...6 10 230 seems to be the consensus measurements. we need some size. ;)

October, 2009: Pierson was consistently productive throughout the event (Future 150 National Camp). He is fundamentally sound, was very good at establishing low post position, giving a target hand and being patient after catching the ball. He weights about 225 lbs and has a frame that should be able to handle 25-30 more. He has a nice stroke from the perimeter and would be effective in pick & pop or trailer situations. He is improving athletically and was able to finish off plays with a dunk. He is a good position rebounder with good hands that uses his body well to box-out and seal his opponent. He is the type of player that will most likely end up in the Valley and having a very good career.

Very nice for them, were we anywhere on his list?

It doesn't look like we were involved with him at all. Good get for Northeastern...they have a lot of big bodies on that team and should be a formidable opponent this season.

dont believe we were in on him, but always nice to check up on what the competition is doing. ;)

Then on that note, we should also note that our friends in Norfolk just pulled off a recruiting coup in getting a commitment from 6'6 high-jumper Richard Ross who is a 1 star recruit who sported offers from Arkansas-Little Rock, Prarie View A&M, Hartford, and TCU. ODU is getting it done on the recruiting trail!

i saw that one when i was going through the recruit lists on espn and scout and laughed. if we signed no one else we already have the best class for next year in the conference and the best recruit overall in McCarter. W&M might have the second best with 2 87's in Heldring and Britt, Arledge is the 2nd highest ranked player with an 88 by ESPN and all these players are 2 star's from scout. great job by the staff.

Doesn't Mason have a good recruiting class?

Yes they do. They only had one grant to give for 2010 and got DC area big man Jonathan Arledge. We had also offered him. Arledge has a very high ceiling and probably could have gone to a high major school despite not having any high-major offers when he committed to Mason. He was waiting on an offer from Georgetown and grew tired of waiting for it. Mason was on him first I believe and he rewarded them with a commitment. FOTY at Recruit Recon raves about him and rates him as a 4-star recruit. Rivals has him unranked and Scout has him as a 2-star, ESPN grades him at an 88. Arledge is 6'9 but has a pretty good 3-point stroke already and should get a lot better as he develops. He's probably like Larry Sanders in that he had a lot of intangibles coming in that hadn't come together yet when he was being recruited so his rankings don't reflect his great potential. Coach L and George Mason are ecstatic I'm sure about securing Arledge's commitment.

That said, McCarter is a heck of a player that I'd probably take over Arledge if it was just the best available player. Arledge fits a need for them and has a ton of potential though. We would probably have a better class on virtue of numbers, but Mason got a lot of bang for their recruiting buck. Plus, their last recruiting class was the #1 non-BCS class in the country last year...so they're not worried about us having a better class this year. Both Mason and VCU should stay at the top of the conference for a while given the level we are recruiting at.

EDIT: Providence and Penn State offered as well as Xavier (who I would classify as a high-major). So Arledge did have offers from some major schools as well.

ramramthankyoumaam: they have an excellent one this year and did only have the one schollie to give next year so Arledge is no slouch as a class by himself.

DB: I am not slouching on Arledge as he is an excellent prospect, but Mccarter is a better prospect as a player, even if at different position. To say that just based on numbers we will be better than Mason when we got the best player the conference has committed here is discounting how good Mccarter is. If we add any one of the 4 we have been talking about recently the class only gets better and I would put Lalanne right there with Arledge as far as a quality big man recruit, so we will have a better class on numbers, but if we add Lalanne and one of the others to McCarter and Brandenburg then our class this year will rival Mason's from last year.

I agree wholeheartedly with you. I said McCarter is the better player. I just meant that Arledge fits a need that they have and was a better pick for their situation. I also believe Arledge is underrated by most services who didn't get a chance to see him. Scout and Rivals had him unranked before his commitment and I believe ESPN did as well. If VCU brings in Lalanne (who is a consensus top 150 recruit on both Rivals and Scout), then we would have a class that rivals Mason's last year. Sherrod Wright was a 4-star recruit before the late signing period came around, people don't really know that. He was a bigtime get for Mason. We would need Lalanne and probably one of the other 3 guys to get up to last year's Mason class level, which was pretty ridiculous on paper.

Of course remember how our #4 non-BCS class in 2007 panned out. Paper rankings mean next to nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Poor kid....gonna have to deal with choking every year

I assume you're talking about the Ross kid.

Actually the NU kid...the Ross kid just came to ODU because he never won anything before and knew they were a shoe in to win the ngvrp.com tournament

Fair enough...but the more I think about NU, the more scary they look. Thank God they don't have a good bench.
