I guess the committee wasnt impressed with the Ben Jobe nomination or our 22 wins. What are they thinking?

Under achieved? Shaka owes us one.

When I went to report this threat it was missing the "stupid and redundant" option...

Well thanks for that. I don't think any one claimed to be impressed though, but it is what it is. In the past 3 years we have been in the CBI, NCAA, and NIT tourneys, ODU in the NCAA, CIT, CBI, and GMU in the CIT, NIT, and NCAA. We are all in the same boat here. Very similar programs in the same conference with similar goals, but right now we are all in the same position and that is that we can't expect to be in the big dance or even the little big dance every year just because of who we are.

Why and explain? Many on this board have used the mantra that we have won 22 games and that was darned impressive. I for one wasn't impressed by the wins but more disturbed by the loses. It seems at least two groups of very knowledgeable basketball minds agree.

Oh and when you explain your stupid and redundant rant try to use fact versus your opinion.

Res ipsa loquitur!

ODU, GMU. You loser! Who cares what they achieve or in this do not achieve? You sound like the kid that fails and tells his parents that everyone else failed too? Get real. ODU, and GMU should be irrelevant to us. If we expect to be a top 30 program, VCU should not be comparing our program to either GMU or ODU.

CBI, CIT I think not!!!

And yes, the 22 wins have been paraded out as some time of accomplishment. Remember the post where the poster listed all first year coaches records?

Considering there were already several threads in which people were discussing their opinions and feelings regarding the NIT/CBI situation, I think his reference to this thread being "redundant" is in fact a thing that speaks for itself.

As for the "stupid" remark, I can't say... he should probably speak to that since it's more of a subjective opinion ...but I think it's fairly safe to say that upon reading this thread he was not impressed... not impressed at all.

Everyone knew that we were out of the NCAA tourney, and the biggest reason that we did not make the NIT is because we are not in the ACC. No way any one doing a blind resume comparison would have left us out of the NIT, so you can't really blast the team or coach for missing the cut in favor of teams who achieved less but bring more money to the table. Our season is no better or worse today then it was on Sunday morning, we are just playing in a lesser tournament then we deserved to be in.

artRAMinMN, I do not think your law dean would be impressed with your analysis of the reasoning for my post. The purpose of my post was not to evaluate/discuss feelings and opinions of the NIT/CBI. Rather my post was meant to point out that as much as many of you would like to believe 22 wins were not impressive and in the grand scheme of things. Further at least two groups of very knowledgeable basketball minds as much as agreed.

Again as to the stupid, If cannot figure the purpose of a post well that kind of speaks volumes as well again "Res ispa loquitor?

I think your analysis of the opinions of others is lacking. I think you either intentionally engage in, or unintentionally fall prey to, multiple logical fallacies. I think you are either not grasping, or willfully ignoring, the fact that concepts such as how successful or impressive some thing may be considered is a) somewhat subjective, and b) not a binary either/or proposition, but rather operates across a spectrum.

I do not recall a single Ram fan stating that they were completely satisfied with how the season turned out. I have seen many say that all things considered, and with all of the variables encountered (and given an inability to turn back time I suppose), that we probably have more to be happy about than sad or angry... but saying you're more happy than sad is not the same thing as saying you're not sad at all. Just because some may not be totally unimpressed, it doesn't follow that they are therefore totally impressed.

I respect that you have an opinion, even if I don't agree with it. I do however wonder why you feel the need to express that opinion in a manner that you have to know is likely to be seen as combative, and what you believe this will gain.

Can we please not turn this into another "I hate Shaka! Shaka needs to go! 22 wins doesn't cut it! We're special! We deserve to be in the dance every single year!" thread?

Pretty please?

Art, the problem is that so many people today have been brought up in a "I want mine now" society that they can't grasp that there are varying degrees of success. When they were young, if they didn't "win", mommy and daddy "fix" it for them. They never knew that if you tried hard, and did your best, sometimes you still did not win. They always won. They always went home happy. Because they were spoon fed life.

Fast forward to real life. There are winners and losers every day. You can try hard and do your best and still come up short. Life is not always fair. The guy next to you gets promoted because of who his father is, rather than he is a good worker. Or because he plays golf and you don't. And mommy and daddy are nowhere to be found. To quote a song- We've been poisoned by this fairytale.

Instead of wasting energy on being negative, if they really cared, they would be asking themselves what they can do to help the situation. They would try to become part of the solution, not part of the problem. It is so easy to sit around just point fingers. But it is hard to step up and offer to help.

I manage people for a living in a very stressful and competitive environment. I've seen the complainers and I've seen the guys who, when faced with adversity, just plow forward. They never complain or cry about the schedule or work conditions. They just keep moving forward, doing their job. When they see a problem they offer up solutions. And when they talk, I listen. I listen because I know they have something to say, they are not just complaining to get attention. Over the years these are the people I see move up within my organization. They have built respect. Their opinion matters. They become the problem solvers. Moving forward, I'm proud that they will take my place.

And so it is here. We have the cry babies, wanting and waiting for mommy and daddy to make things better. But also we have those who will understand that everything won't go their way everyday. That some days they will try hard and still not reach the level of success they desire. So they will sit back and try to help in whatever way they can. Waiting and working for the good days. While our other friends just sit and nancy.

I learned a long time ago, you reap what you sow.

Edit: Want to add one more thing- I am proud to be a Ram Fan.
