Not on Vilarino's list?

That list hasn't changed - - it was the same list as when he was committed to Kentucky. They just changed his status.

FYI, seems Baylor has a few guards coming in this year. Hopefully this gives us a better shot ar Vilarino!

From Scout:

Mark Few's Gonzaga Bulldogs are bringing Vilarino in for an official visit this coming weekend. VCU head coach Shaka Smart was in town as well this week watching Vilarino.

Do we even have a backup plan if Vilarino doesn't commit? I imagine a quality PG is harder to come by as the spring wears on.

I've got a bad feeling about the Gonzaga visit. They do a really nice job on their visits. Not that it is that hard to sell the program these days after being such a consistent winner. I remember Jeremy Pargo going on and on about the "family atmosphere" in an interview on Comcast( not sure of the network though) during his Soph or Junior year. Hope like heck I'm wrong but just have a bad feeling.

Yeah Gonzaga is certainly tough competition. Shaka is relentless though, he won't go down without a fight. I'm pretty sure Nolan Dennis' commitment to Baylor takes them out of the picture though. Let's hope Shaka can seal the deal. I think Theus can be fine at point, but I would feel better with another point guard, especially one as skilled and talented as Vilarino.

How does Gonzaga look at the PG position next year?

Well they lose Jeremy Pargo this year so they lost a star there and will be looking for someone to step up and fill their PG position. That said, there isn't really a comparison between VCU and Gonzaga when it comes to hoops. Not sure how good their underclassmen guards are. They are on another level from us and quite frankly where we want to be as a mid-major. I'm pretty sure everyone in the CAA wants that. They do have a lot to offer. Mark Few has been there for 10 years and I don't think he's going anywhere. Shaka has yet to coach a single game as a head coach. Gonzaga has been to every NCAA tournament the past several years and has put numerous players into the NBA in that time. They are ranked in the top 25 every year. They play some of the toughest schedules against the best teams around. From a basketball perspective, I'd objectively have to say it's a no-brainer. That said, Vilarino will almost certainly get more time here and be a starter from day one playing heavy minutes for a pretty well-recognized mid-major with recent NCAA history and success. It all depends on how GJ and his family feel about each situation. I know Shaka is going to be after him like his life depends on it the next couple of days.

Gonzaga is definately Guard heavy
Matt Bouldin...31 minutes a game last year
Steven Gray...27
Demetri Goodson...13
Micah Downs (listed as a Guard, but is 6'8")
2 other guys named Chris Pontarolo-Maag and Andrew Sorenson played sparingly plus have a SG named Mngisto Arop coming in.

This makes me feel a bit better since we have PT to spare....I'm just gonna go ahead and think positive thoughts.

I think if we can get him here for his last visit, it will help our odds.

I definitely think being the last visit does help your chances whenever you're going after recruits. He does plan to come here on a visit after he goes to Gonzaga.

Half-baked, a lot of those guys are 2 guards.

Yea...Bouldin looks like the only PG.
I was just tryin' to help out with actual basketball info instead of being a remora eel on the belly of RamNation :D
