2010
2. Tobias Harris PF 6'8" 210 Half Hollow Hills West H.S. (NY) RISE#28
3. Jayvaughn Pinkston PF 6'5" 220 Bishop Loughlin Memorial H.S. (NY) RISE#67
5. Devon Collier PF 6'8" 210 St. Anthony H.S. (NJ)
6. Melsahn Basabe PF 6'7" 215 St. Mark's School (MA)
7. Ashton Pankey PF 6'8" 210 St. Anthony H.S. (NJ)
8. Will Regan PF 6'8" 220 Nichols School (NY)
11. Kadeem Jack C 6'8" 190 Rice H.S. (NY)
13. Derrick Williams PF 6'6" 255 St. Anthony H.S. (NJ)

Maybe it is my personal bias being in Brooklyn who knows, but I look at this list of NY bigs that are still out there and I see a handful of players that are intriguing options if we can get involved in their recruiting. We all know about Basabe and are hoping he comes here instead of going to Sienna or Drexel. Harris and Pinkston are going big time without a doubt.

5. Devon Collier PF 6'8" 210 St. Anthony H.S. (NJ)
Devon Collier is also probably going major as he is ranked the #18 PF by both Scout (4 star) and ESPN (93), 3.5 by recruitrecon.
June, 2009: Collier played very well at the NBPA Top 100 Camp in stretches although he had knee braces on both legs that seemed to slow his mobility at times. He is active, pretty skilled and plays with urgency. He runs the floor in transition consistently and this long and lean lefty scores in the low post with quick spin moves from the left block and face up mid range jumpers where he does a good job of raising the defender with a great shot fake. Collier can put the ball on the floor a few dribbles and when he attacks right he loves to spin back to his left to finish at the rim or elevate into a pull up jumper. Collier can also knock down an open three with needed time and space. He would be excellent in a pick and pop situation because he can shoot off the catch or drive when he is close to the rim. Collier is a good low post defender because he does a good job using his length to contest and change shots. Collier has great upside and will be an excellent college player provided he is healthy.

What is interesting is that on Scout and maybe it is that they dont update all that often the schools list they have no offers out to him while a bunch of schools listed. His high interest schools were listed as Memphis, St. Johns, Seton Hall, Villanova, Xavier. ESPN has him associated with Providence, St. Johns, Maryland, Oregon State. Personally if that is who we are competing against other than maybe Nova or Maryland, possibly Xavier we are as good as any of those programs.

Now Rivals has him listed as a 3 star #134 on their top 150 with offers from Uconn, Pitt, WV, Seton Hall, St. Johns and Cuse which would make him very unlikely.

7. Ashton Pankey PF 6'8" 210 St. Anthony H.S. (NJ)
Ashton is a 3 star from rivals and scout (#36 pf) and 91from ESPN (#39 pf) 3.5 from recruitrecon
July, 2009: Pankey is a gifted athlete with good length, agility, and a motor that has become more consistent with experience. He's an excellent offensive rebounder, good for a couple of tip-ins per game with a quick first and second bounce. He runs well, fills lanes on the break, and finishes explosively above the rim. While he must get stronger, he doesn't mind contact, and is already a good catch-and-finish player with soft hands. His skill set is still a work in progress but he makes elbow jumpers and shows the occasional flash with his back to the basket. Defensively, he uses his length to get into passing lanes, challenge shots, or block shots from the weak-side, and has the lateral quickness to potentially defend multiple positions.
He like Basabe has been linked to Siena along with scout listing offers from Hofstra, Houston, Miami, St. Johns, and WV. Rivals list is similar and ESPN has Providence, Rutgers and Temple. WV with Huggins is the only school i wouldnt think we could beat out.

As you can obviously read both Collier and Pankey play at St. Anthony with Bob Hurley.

8. Will Regan PF 6'8" 220 Nichols School (NY)
committed to UVA.

11. Kadeem Jack C 6'8" 190 Rice H.S. (NY)
3 Star on Scout (#43 PF), 90 on ESPN (#52 PF)
April, 2009: Jack plays with a great deal of energy and contests shots on the defensive, thus taking ownership of the paint. With his presence on the defensive end, he really anchors his team's defensive focus and allows perimeter players to gamble for steals due to the fact that they know that they have an eraser behind them in the paint. He also crashes the glass on both ends of the floor and starts breaks with defensive rebounds or block shots and easily runs down the floor to finish in transition. Jack uses his quick leaping ability to Jack has immense upside and his basketball days lay ahead of him, especially if he can increase his level of strength to hold his position on the block for scoring and rebounding, in addition to improving his post moves and footwork with his back to the basket.

Schools of interest include Mason, Siena, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Pitt, St. Johns, but i dont see any offers listed.

13. Derrick Williams PF 6'6" 255 St. Anthony H.S. (NJ)
We have talked about him before on this board, but dont remember many updates of late. Also goes to St. Anthony's so if we have been scouting him then presumably we have seen and spoken with Collier and Pankey as they are teammates.

Just some names to throw out there as we obviously havent been linked to any in the past other than Basabe and Williams.

Nice post and let's hope VCU coaching staff has them on radar.

Other than Cady LaLanne I don't know anyone 6'8" or taller we have outstanding offers to? [assuming recetnt posts about Bradley not coming to VCU are correct]

What is up with Donte Williams since UGA and Auburn are the only "bigger" schools that have offered him according to scout? The fact that UGA is after both Williams and Cady could help us in landing one of them i guess depending on the sales job Fox is doing down there.

I remember seeing that UR was pretty heavily recruiting Derrick Williams out of St. Anthony's.

Same article about the Reebok All-American Camp mentions Collier.

Devon Collier, 6-8 forward, St. Anthony (NJ), Class of 2010: A very skilled forward, Collier can scored in many different type of ways while having his back against the basket when in the post. He can muscle his way inside, pull one of his spin-moves to the rim or even hit a turn-around jumper. If given the room, the 6-8 Bronx, NY, native showed he could knock down shots from behind the perimeter. He was very active on the defensive end.

More on Kadeem Jack:

Jack is one of the toughest players in NYC in the class of ’10. He brings the same full-out intensity each and every night and is afraid to use his strength down-low in the paint. Has great hands and is a terrific shot-blocker. Runs the floor well at 6′8″. Needs to improve on his mid-range jump shot. Has a good set of back-to-the-basket moves but needs to extend on his skill set to become a dominant big men on the next level. Extraordinary rebounding ability, both on the offensive and defensive end. Plays opposing bigs very tightly in the paint. – July 19th – R.A

Jack is a tough, skilled, hard-nosed player that gets the job done on both ends of the floor. His skill-set is that of a power forward, but he moves with finesse and grace like he is a smaller player. He has a great motor, long arms, and skinny but powerful legs. He definitely has a lot of room to bulk up, and there is no doubt that at the next level he will do so. Jack has an exceptionally quick second jump combined with good habits, which helps him in all areas of his game.

Jack has not been playing basketball for even close to as long as most of his peers and as a result of this he does not have many bad habits on the court. The reason behind this is that most things he learns, he learns the right way. For example, one thing that really stands out is when Jack gets a rebound. He always keeps the ball over his head which is critical so that guards cannot take the ball away from him on the defensive end, and so that he can get easy baskets when he gets offensive rebounds. Although this is taught to big men at a young age, many players form bad habits and bring the ball down.

Kadeem has good form on his jump shot and an eagerness to learn about basketball, which is obvious when you are in the gym with him helping because he listens closely to everything that is going on around him.

Look for Jack to really come on this year and help Rice big time. He is only going to get better with age because he still has so much to learn about the game. – Sept. 15th – J.B.

Kadeem Jack - ‘10 Rice: Has the body at 6′8″ to become an offensive monster, but the process is still coming along. His defensive-prowess is greatly effective and appreciated by teammates as he saves easy baskets by blocking shots with his free-flying arms.

Kadeem Jack ’10, Rice (NY), NY Gauchos: Seton Hall,Pitt, George Mason, Siena, Villanova, Arkansas, Miami, St. John’s, DePaul, and Drexel

Offers: Seton Hall, George Mason, Siena, and St. John’s
Favorites: “My favorites are probably Seton Hall, Villanova, St. John’s, Pitt, and Miami.”
Notes- Jack is just 16 years old despite the fact that he is about to be a senior, and thus is considering doing a post-grad year after he graduates, and is already considering St. Thomas More(CT), South Kent (CT), Notre Dame Prep (MD), and Solebury School (PA). It is not definite though, as the big man, who wants to go high-major, stated, “It depends on how I do this year, because I think if I go to prep school I’ll . .. get more familiar with my game. . . . This will [only] be my third year[playing basketball].” The New York star does think it is likely he will end up taking a PG year. “I’ll think most likely I’ll go prep because I don’t thinkt hree years [of experience] is enough to go high-major and contribute how I wantto.”

He is likely to reclassify to 2011 especially since he is so young, but if we could go after and get him to come here for 2010 before all the upper Big East schools get in on it, that would be a coup.
