Here are a few other notes, nuggets and observations from around camp this week:

Two years ago, Rider’s Jason Thompson was the big story among the counselors at camp. He guarded LeBron James tough in scrimmages and played nose to nose with his fellow counselors from high major schools. The 2009 version of Thompson is Larry Sanders of Virginia Commonwealth, a 6-foot-10 (without shoes) condor who rekindles images of Keon Clark from his U.N.L.V days. “He just gets up so fast,” said an admiring Cole Aldrich of Kansas. Expect him to end up in the first round of the draft, just like Thompson.

We'd all do very well to appreciate Larry while we have him for one more season ... IMO, his performance at this LeBron thing has erased any shadow of a doubt that (barring serious injury) the NBA will come calling with a first-round pick and guaranteed millions after the 2009-10 season. Even if he never extends his consistent shooting range beyond 5-10 feet, Larry's length and athleticism are just too tantalizing for a league full of GMs who drool over long, athletic big men.

Unless they're simply too good to pass up, Shaka and Co. better take whatever perimeter players they're looking at for the Class of 2010 and forget about them. There's going to be a GAPING hole in the Rams' frontcourt, so let's go sign up some bigs.
