I meant D1 (BCS),
I know nascar is great for the area, and draws 120,000 actually. I just don't like the (Jimmy Buffet-parking lot-red neck-Red Man-chewing-proud parent of a G.E.D recipient, type folks up there at RIR). Indy Racing is cool though. I wanna go to next year's race.
(I did see a picture of a nascar fan one with block lettering, the word RICHMOND tattooed across his back. That was awesome!)
Richmond will never build another coliseum, football stadium, or baseball stadium (maybe they get that done)
But more and more it appears that the region will see new athletic facilities only in the counties. Hockey will come back, but it will be in arresterfield.
UR and VCU are in charge of their own stadiums. This is a good thing, they do it right. JPJ is so amazing, but its only because universities do it right. ODU has nice facilities.
RVA is actually a great sports town, unlike that recent poll suggests. It is just more into college sports, nascar, and DC teams. Our location is great for many things, but for sports its a weird location. Minor leagues are not a big interest in Central Va. Just inevitable . Probably never will be again. Church and PBR i'd say are the biggest draws round here. Just kidding. Anyway VCU, UVA, TECH and UR are our pro teams. I'm cool with that.
But thank God, theres another exciting 10K coming up....
