ODU Tired of Larry Sanders Hype

I don't care about the hype as long as Larry doesn't let the hype get to his head

Larry is going to have a big target on his back. Teams are going to try to focus thier defenses on him, and the over all big play in the CAA should be much better this year. The hype for Larry is great, but I hope his shoulders are broad enough to carry this much weight.....

JacksonWard31: How can you say that NASCAR sucks when it draws over 100,000 twice a year. Granted you may not like NASCAR but it is a major part of the sports scene in Richmond. It would be nice if Richmond had several other sports activities. Until that happens, however, VCU does play a role in Richmond sports.

The NASCAR races in Richmond have the same regional economic impact as a Superbowl and are the largest (attendance wise- capacity 112,000 seats) single sporting events in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Yes, NASCAR may not be for everyone, but look at it objectively and don't write it off as simply a footnote like it's some kind of local weekend festival.

Unfortunately, there isn't that one single sports team that the entire area can get behind. I think it's good that UR has a national championship football team, but I've never really followed them. Richmond Kickers? Don't really care. I don't even know where they play. But if the point is provide something for every sports fan regardless of team colors, then we have that here. It's still a pretty weak sports scene, but at least we have one.

Couldn't agree more. The amount of money that Nascar generates in the Richmond area by bringing 135,000+ people (when taking into account support staff, and those that come to the races without even having tickets, just for the experience) to the greater Richmond area for 3 days, twice a year is GREAT for local business. Hotels, restaurants, bars, retail locations, etc. all benefit.

That's without even considering the economic stimulus package Tony Stewart gives to the strippers at Paper Moon.
