This was the CAA wildcard game and ESPN has officially picked it up. This will be a 2:00 PM tip.
RICHMOND, Va. – Apparently the crew at the “Worldwide Leader in Sports†saw what everyone else already knew about the best college basketball rivalry in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Just two days after yet another hard-fought battle between VCU and Old Dominion, ESPN announced it will pick up the two schools rematch on Feb. 12th at the Verizon Wireless Arena at the Stuart C. Siegel Center. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
“Any rivalry that goes back-and-forth as much as this one does is great for everybody involved. I’m just happy that the whole country will get to see what these two programs have to offer,†Head Coach Shaka Smart said.
The Rams are fresh off a 59-50 defeat of the Monarchs on Saturday afternoon in Norfolk and will be looking for the series’ first sweep since 2004, when VCU went a perfect 3-0, including an 84-67 victory in the CAA Tournament.
With the announcement, the Black & Gold will now play five games on the ESPN family of networks with a possibility depending on ESPNU Bracketbusters in late February and the CAA Championship game in March.
ESPN will announce the specific network (ESPN or ESPN2) on Feb. 4th.
