This was the CAA wildcard game and ESPN has officially picked it up. This will be a 2:00 PM tip.

RICHMOND, Va. – Apparently the crew at the “Worldwide Leader in Sports” saw what everyone else already knew about the best college basketball rivalry in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Just two days after yet another hard-fought battle between VCU and Old Dominion, ESPN announced it will pick up the two schools rematch on Feb. 12th at the Verizon Wireless Arena at the Stuart C. Siegel Center. Game time is set for 2 p.m.

“Any rivalry that goes back-and-forth as much as this one does is great for everybody involved. I’m just happy that the whole country will get to see what these two programs have to offer,” Head Coach Shaka Smart said.

The Rams are fresh off a 59-50 defeat of the Monarchs on Saturday afternoon in Norfolk and will be looking for the series’ first sweep since 2004, when VCU went a perfect 3-0, including an 84-67 victory in the CAA Tournament.

With the announcement, the Black & Gold will now play five games on the ESPN family of networks with a possibility depending on ESPNU Bracketbusters in late February and the CAA Championship game in March.

ESPN will announce the specific network (ESPN or ESPN2) on Feb. 4th.

Do you think that people are catching on? I hope not. This is our little gem.

Me and another poster on these boards saw it coming. VCU is now 8-1 in the conference. Sounds good saying that!

Should be COMPLETELY sold out today or tomorrow - was at the ticket office today to get @ JMU tickets and was told there were only about 20 left (for ODU game) - there was a girl at the window buying 4.

Nice!

wonder when we find out which ESPN channel....really hope it is not the pay per view ""U". Hope ESPN but would take the duce.

Both teams need to keep on winning. Athough, I will constantly route against ODU throughout!

Well if you go to ESPNS college schedule for that day

http://scores.espn.go.com/ncb/scoreboard?date=20110212

it says Ohio State Wisconsin is on ESPN at 2pm, but at the bottom we are not listed at 2pm on ESPN2 in the others section.

ESPN's TV schedule ( http://sports.espn.go.com/espntv/espnGuide ) has both games as TBD still.

although, it looks like the ESPN2 game will be in HD

Ummm, either I am seeing things or the ESPN2HD channel shows ODU @ VCU. Did it change in the image you posted after you posted it?

oh weird, i went back to take a new screenshot to make it smaller and it changed between the first and second.

Guarantee we are on ESPN2 after tonight... I'm sure if they could, they'd even stick us on ESPNU or even worse... just ESPN3.com!

Before anyone answers, this was a rhetorical question. Jimbo does not really want to know who cares if it was on ESPNU or ESPN3.COM. Please do not debate why one would care. Please do not debate the merits of ESPN2 over ESPNU or ESPN3.COM.

Thank you.
