Yeah a CBI championship banner would be pretty embarrassing. Let's not do that.

Winning this thing is very far from sure as well. We have to prove that we can get the road monkey off of our backs which is why I'm kinda glad we're forced to earn it on the road. Hopefully we can pull it out.

It wouldnt be embarrassing I'm pretty sure ODU has one for their CIT championship and I bet they don't care.

It would be more embarrassing not to win the darn thing. The guys have worked hard during this tourney and if we can wrap it up they deserve to have something to show for it. I would imagine it might just be a trophy though. Going one and done at home in the NIT was starting to get embarrassing, this tourney has been good for us so far.

No, they don't and rightfully so. They have one banner with a list of their postseason appearances and how far they went, the CIT and CBI are listed there, that's all.

Using sense would tell you thats what I was referring to. At the end of the day no matter how you want to spin it they still have a CBI and CIT banner its just consolidated with the rest of them.

Completely agree!

1 The team never gave up even after the disappointment of not making the NIT. They have battled their way to a situation where they need one more win to end the season with a W and championship(even if its the CBI). They definitely deserve something to show for it should they win the CBI. Especially for the seniors Kirill and TJ who I'm sure would like to go out with a championship.

2. VCU has gotten some attention. First the A10 has been talking about VCU a lot with the Rams being 4-0 against them. Making the A10 talk about VCU can only lead to good things for VCU. Some good teams in the A10 might want to play a regular series with VCU in the future if they think it will help their resume. Plus last night VCU ended up on the Top 10 plays on ESPN with the alleyoop to Roz. Nothing like a little national attention. Considering VCU's history in the NIT that little national exposure wouldn't have happened if VCU went to the NIT. It would be great if VCU could take the CBI championship in its first appearance in the tourney.

Ah I assumed you meant like a final four banner. Well then technically yes they have it on a banner with about 20 other tournaments on it.

Semantics...

Exactly. This is all about getting experience for our young guys and defining roles for next year (Jamie taking over the post with Larry leaving, Darius getting pg experience, Troy getting into the rhythm of playing the 2 in real game situations etc.).

I hope no one starts bragging that we won the CBI like it's some kind of big deal. We get valuable experience and the opportunity to see our team play 3 more home games. That itself was enough.

The experience can't hurt, it can only help. The only issue would be is the financial pricetag worth it.

Although apparently some disagree that is has any merit. Anyone see some of the posts on the times dispatch in the game story under "reader comments" this morning? Wow....

Yeah but at the end of they day the put it up there. If we win this thing we should too. Its not going to hurt anything nor will it make the program look small time. If we were embarrassed about the CBI we shouldn't have signed the paper

I guess that makes sense although the CBI certainly is small time. I guess it just sucks having to eat crow about being above these tournaments and then playing in them. It's a good experience for all our players and allows Larry to end his VCU career with a win. That's what I'm taking from it. If you get excited and pumped about the CBI championship, more power to you.

If you makes you feel better if we win the tourney we did something no CAA team has done. ODU loss in the second round when they played in it. :D

Another perspective. CBI is traditionally better than the CIT.

NIT-W&M(away) and NU(away) loss in the first round
CBI-Hofstra loss(home). VCU in the championship
CIT- First round-Mason loss to Fairfield at home after having a 30 pt lead.

VCU has kept the CAA postseason alive after ODU narrowly fell to Baylor.

See there are some positives along with the ones you listed. :)

yep....and i find it funny that some of the folks who clowned odu fans hardcore the last two seasons are saying virtually the same exact things odu fans said.

many of you may disagree with me, but at least i've stuck to my guns.

That's all I'm saying. Everyone changes their tune when it happens to their team. The vast majority of VCU fans were mocking ODU fans to no end when it came to the CBI and CIT. Now it's a big deal all of a sudden when we're in it.

Well, I'm not making a big deal of it and I mocked ODU the last two years. But since we're in it I hope we win it. But you won't find me bragging about it. Like I said before, to me this is like winning a pre-season tournament. Nice, but not that significant.

And don't forget, we are being shown in at least a few million homes on HDNET which is nothing to blow off.

Maybe, but then again the vast majority of VCU fans would mock ODU if they were in the NBA finals.

At the beginning of the season would I have been excited if you told me that we would win the CBI this year? Nope. Will I be happy if we win it now? Absolutely. Your goals change throughout the season. At one point we were hoping to win a 4th regular season title in a row, but by the end of the season we would have been very happy about sneaking into the top 4. This has been a fun tournament to watch, and a good experience for the players. We have beaten some good, although not great, teams to get to where we are, and if we can win it by defeating St. Louis on the road I would think it would be a huge momentum boost heading into next season. This isn't the NCAA tourney or even the NIT, but let's not forget that we only had one post season victory in the past 20 or so years prior to this. We are in no way above participating in this tournament, few teams are.
