The non-conference schedule will be released today on ESPN950 AM when Robby Robinson and Mike Ellis fill in for Greg Burton on Hardly Working.

Re: Non-Conference Schedule Release!

What time is the show? And is there live streaming of the show if I happen to be at work?

Re: Non-Conference Schedule Release!

Why all the drama? Hopefully its because there's a pleasant surprise or two?

Re: Non-Conference Schedule Release!

Discretionary money is tight and tickets need to be sold. 09-10 has one of the best home slates in a long time and a new energetic coach and a probable NBA draft pick to come see. VCU has plenty to offer but it still needs to be sold. Good advertising.

It's from 4-7 usually. You can listen online at ESPN950am.com

Word is there will be 17 home games this season. I think we know most of our opponents already, i think there's room for 1 or 2 more games that we don't know of yet.

Re: Non-Conference Schedule Release!

The schedule is what was posted previously with the addition of a game at Hampton University. If you count up the home games from the previous messages, you will get 17 home games + the exhibition game against VA Union. That gives us 28 regular season games.

It is also my understandiong that VCU will not play Alabama until 2011-12 with the first game at Alabama. I guess Anthony Grant wants to make sure Larry is definitely gone before they play VCU.

Re: Non-Conference Schedule Release!

Fantastic schedule for us but UGHHHH.....Hampton?? I thougt we were done with the series.

Re: Non-Conference Schedule Release!

well Ham[pton is DIV I and beat us by 9 year before last at Hampton-If we are going anywhere, we must be able to win on the road. right? Especially when they are not very prestigious and you are supposed to win. That has been our downfall some years when we didn't make the NCAAs.

Re: Non-Conference Schedule Release!

They played us close at the Stu last season too, 59-54.

Although, I bet the Hampton players still have nightmares about Larry. He had a MONSTER game against them.

No doubt he saved us in that one. Until the CAA Final that was by far the most dominant game of his career. I love the way his confidence grows when he is having a game like that. Once he gets going he is hard to stop.

Hampton is a dangerous team for us, but I like that we are not afraid to play them. It is a situation where we should beat them, but although they are fully capable of defeating us it looks like a bad loss come tourney time. I am glad that we are up to the challenge though rather than giving them the same treatment that the BCS schools give us. Last year's game was well attended as well. In state rivalries are a good for putting behinds in the seats.

Re: Non-Conference Schedule Release!

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say no scheduling surprises, (other than a VERY small number of OOC road games.)

Re: Non-Conference Schedule Release!

they're teasing the announcement now... i'd guess they'll actually make it at the 5:00ish hour.

I wouldn't expect anything we haven't already heard.

Re: Non-Conference Schedule Release!

Coming out now. Bethune-Cookman is a guarantee game. Thankfully.

November
5 (Thurs.) Virginia Union (exhibition)
13 (Fri.) Bethune-Cookman
18 (Wed.) at Western Michigan
21 (Sat.) Oklahoma
23 (Mon.) at Hampton
27 (Fri.) Nevada

December
2 (Wed.) Rhode Island
12 (Sat.) Richmond
19 (Sat.) at Tulane
29 (Tues.) East Carolina

February

19-20 (Fri./Sat.) ESPNU BracketBusters

Very, very solid OOC schedule. I like it. One true heavy hitters, some very strong teams, and even the lower tier teams aren't complete and utter crap. Even Bethune-Cookman normally finishes near the top of the MEAC.
