Old-Timers...during the Barnett years...we had this guy named Andy Black who tranferred from
Appalachian State. He was kinda of like Brian Magid, Maggot ???!!! (can't spell name) from Maryland/GW...3 pt specialist...what's he doing these days???? All I remember is that He had a great Fu-man-chu beard :D

No update on Andy, but ...

Originally from San Diego, his family moved to Vienna in Northern Virginia and Andy enrolled at famed Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va., where he enjoyed much exposure.

At Appy, Black led the Southern Conference in free-throw percentage before transferring to VCU, where he played one season under Barnett and two Mike Pollio, mostly as a situational subsitutute to counter zone defenses. The lead contributor during Andy's run was Phil Stinnie from Charlottesville.

In the '85-'86 season, VCU's roster included 14 players - all "black."

Thirteen were black, racially; and then there was Andy Black.

I used to see Andy at all the games, for a few years after he left. But now that you mention it, I haven't see him in several years. Not that it means anything- maybe he sits in a dif area of the court. Don't know. Maybe he moved out of the area?? He was a hard-nosed player. A real Barnett type of guy.

Andy and I went to middle and high school together after he moved from san diego. The last time I saw him a few years ago, he was working for sprint in norfolk after leaving richmond. he was married and had a child. Have not seen him in at least 5 years or maybe more !

I remember Andy(spot) Black and Neil Wake, coming to VCU rugby games to watch us play and join the after party. Those two made a few road trips to watch the rugby team also.
