Something like this next to the Stu...

http://www.monarchsportsgrille.com/

Went in there after the VCU game this year and I was very impressed. Perfect size (not too big..so gets nice and cozy in there after a game)...really handsome ODU sports bar with the best bar setup (flat screens around the whole bar)...

Met some nice ODU fans there as well. Really wish we had something like this instead of either that Subway or ABC store near the Stu.

I wish we had a trophy case in the Siegel Center hallway like they do at the TED. Or maybe a sports trophy room somewhere that people could visit. Instead of whatever closet that stuff is in

That sports bar is well placed. Marriott built that hotel there based on visitor demand for ODU. I can't believe there is not the same demand at VCU. Between games, graduation, and just general visiting by people who have their sons, daughters and general business with the school, there is not a hotel on Broad or Grace within or right next to the campus. A similar hotel would be a plus for the school and add a sports bar, it would be a definite stop after class, work and before/after the games.

i went to the monarch grill before the last game down there, and it was enjoyable. vcu needs a spot like this near the stu, no doubt.

funny, one of those crazy streamer hair face painter odu fans came up to me there and said "yer atomicfly arentcha!" i said "uh no", then proceeded to wonder for the rest of the day how this guy knew i posted on the zone, and why he would peg me as a high school kid.

Haha, I drank with the Ted Heads at the tournament this year. They are good people, I think D-Man is the one who posts regularly on the zone, he must've had a lot to drink to confuse a Little Rascal with a high school kid though.

tear down Community Pride and build a hotel on top of a parking deck.

But as I say that... you would have to cap the height on it to know taller than the retirement community that sits on the adjacent lot. In one corner of the ground floor of the deck carve out a nice looking sports/vcu bar!!!

Guys, guys, guys. I already announced my plans when I moved to New York:

I'm up here to make my millions, so I can move back to Richmond and open a VCU themed sports bar next to campus. I told you all this months ago.

So far I haven't quite made millions yet, but it'll happen any day now.

Don't we already have a VCU themed sportsbar at Grace and Harrison? Black and Gold decor with Ram memorabilia hanging on the walls, VCU students and old grads inhabiting the booths and a gaggle of gray haired grizzled alkies and Fan heavies packed around the bar, ( the lone exception being Sometimes when in town.) I also think there are at least two flat screens if memory serves.

What could be more quintessentially VCU?

I agree entirely, and that is the first thing I thought of when I read this thread; however, I understand the complaints people might have: It fills up very quickly before and after games, it's incredibly smoky (although I guess that's changing soon), and while they have a few TVs, they're certainly not a sportsbar in the sense that they don't have extra sports packages, etc.

On the other hand, they might expand into the buildings next to them at some point. If that happens, no need for another option.

don't you mean before? or did you go after too?

the bar had these pretty awesome coasters built in that are ice cold so your beer stays nice and frosty!

Don't get me wrong, I love the Village...but it's more of a Diner where VCU fans gather...assuming other random students/Richmonders aren't already inhabiting it's booths on game nights. I love eating there, but a black and gold floor, a flag, and a TV or two doesn't exactly make that place a sports bar.

Yeah D Man is the dude who made all those spirals for the ODU-VCU game earlier this year. He told he spent freaking forever making those because he had to individually paint everyone of those things. That's not including just building them.

i definitely wouldn't call the village anything close to a sports bar. don't get me wrong, i LOVE that place, but lets face it, the homeless drunks* don't exactly make it as family friendly as a clean, new vcu bar/restaurant would.

*will all due respect to homeless drunks.

My family LOVES the Village, including my 7 and 10 year old sons. And while you missed the subtlety of my humor in calling the place a sports bar I have no qualms about taking anyone there. Not that I would sit them at the bar however.

...like you folks don't get to drink booze enough now
